Summary:
The Nurse Lead provides medical oversight to Crisis employees during their assigned shift. The Nurse Lead is to coordinate with the Provider or Medical Director to provide appropriate and effective mental health treatment for clients, as well as to understand and implement medical criteria as dictated by Alliance Healthcare Services funding sources. This person has the responsibility for the medical direction of activities performed in the programs under their supervision. The person occupying this position provides direct services as a Nurse to CAC and CSU clients by ensuring all medical crisis functions are completed as required. Performs other responsibilities as assigned by senior staff.
Education Requirement:
Graduate of an approved LPN/RN program. Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates.
Experience Requirement:
Experience working in a mental health or crisis setting.
Mental health or crisis experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirement:
Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Registered Nurse to work in the state of TN. Current BLS certification required.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assist on the floor, as needed.
- Follow infection control guidelines at all times.
- Coordinate with Assessors on appropriateness of referrals to CSU, Respite, or Detox.
- Ensure all Nurse and CMAs on the floor are completing assigned tasks in a timely manner (medical clearance, medication pass, groups, admissions, and discharges).
- Scheduling to ensure 24-hour coverage.
- Will participate in on-call rotation including availability to cover needed shifts during assigned on-call period.
- Coordinate with Nursing Manager to schedule and complete trainings for all new hire nurses and CMAs (this include agency nurses).
- Monitor and reorder medical inventory as needed for the floor.
- Monitor discrepancy reports as requested by Nursing Manager.
- Complete incident reports as needed.
- Monitor TennCare referrals to CSU, ensuring at least 20% of inpatient beds are represented by TennCare insurance.
- Be familiar with CAC, CSU, Detox, and Respite staff responsibilities and provide feedback to staff regarding the routine completion of assigned duties.
- Safely respond to emergency situations in a calm, constructive manner.
- Utilize Therapeutic Options and Safe Clinch techniques to deescalate and prevent aggressive outbursts; direct staff members to intervene when necessary.
- Communicate with Crisis Services Managers, Clinical Leads, Shift Leads, and other Nurse Leads to discuss problems, concerns, and opportunities.
- Completes Nurse Lead report noting any medical concerns or training needs.
- Completes quality audits on frontline staff documentation.
- Ensure staff are treating all staff members, patients, families, and referral sources with respect and dignity.
- Comply with policies and procedures as outlined in Alliance policy and procedure manual.
- Read work email every work day.
- Participate in all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Provide discipline to frontline staff in conjunction with Shift Lead, Clinical Lead, other Nurse Leads, or Crisis Managers as needed to ensure staff accountability to requirements. This includes appropriate documentation and follow-up emails as required by Alliance discipline process.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- All RNs and LPNs must be cross trained for CAC and CSU.
- This person must contribute to a professional, healing, and restorative environment. Ability to work effectively in a crisis service delivery setting dealing with individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
- This position must exemplify problem solving skills, formulate appropriate crisis intervention response, demonstrate self-motivation, possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
- Ability to use mature judgment in problem resolution and to formulate appropriate crisis intervention strategies for Center clients.
- Must have knowledge of management and organization, and knowledge of the professional disciplines.
- The individual in this position has the ability to work with conflicting or competing demands or interests of clients, employees, sponsors in the distribution of work, evaluating work and good program effectiveness.

In order to appropriately accomplish his/her duties, the person occupying this position will be required to maintain effective relationships with local hospitals and other referring partners, Crisis staff, Outpatient staff, and the clients of Alliance Healthcare Services
