Position Responsibilities:

·       Comprehensive knowledge of human genetic disorders and birth defects. Excellent communication skills to distill complex information, results and diagnoses to patients in terms they can digest and ability to apply counseling methods and techniques. Ability to use independent and impartial judgment when man aging patient data and privacy Ability to apply counseling methods and techniques to help families to cope and manage potential outcomes. Knowledge of community support services and funding agencies.

·       Assist in obtaining  family and medical history and counsels patients and/or families in cases of genetic disorders or birth defects.

·       Participate in shadowing opportunities to observe genetic counseling sessions and better understand patient interaction.

·       Coordinates and researches all insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients. Researching the best tests based on patient’s insurance coverage. Prepares letters of medical necessity.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor's degree

·       Prior experience as Genetic Counselor Assistant.
