Job Summary
The Wire Technician installs, routes, and terminates electrical wiring and harnesses for BrandFX products on the manufacturing line. You’ll interpret drawings and work instructions, build and test harnesses, integrate electrical components during installation, and verify quality and safety to meet production takt time.
Key Responsibilities
Wiring & Installation
- Cut, strip, crimp, and terminate wires; assemble/loom wire harnesses per prints, schematics, and work instructions.
- Route wiring cleanly through assemblies, enclosures, and vehicle upfits; secure with proper strain relief and protection.
- Install electrical components (switches, relays, LEDs/lighting, breakers, connectors, sensors) during final assembly.
Blueprints & Documentation
- Read/interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material (BOM), and installation travelers.
- Complete travelers, signoffs, and nonconformance tags; update rework notes accurately.
Quality & Safety
- Perform continuity, polarity, and functional tests with DMMs and test fixtures; troubleshoot faults to root cause.
- Follow 5S, ESD handling, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices; maintain a clean, safe work area.
- Comply with BrandFX and OSHA safety standards; use required PPE.
Throughput & Collaboration
- Meet daily production targets and takt time; escalate blockers promptly.
- Collaborate with Installers, Fabrication, and Quality to resolve fit-up or routing issues.
- Suggest improvements for standard work, tooling, and harness layouts (continuous improvement/Kaizen).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; technical certificate in Electrical/Industrial Technology preferred.
- 1+ years wiring, harness build, or electrical installation experience in a manufacturing or upfit environment.
- Proficiency with wire strippers, crimpers, heat-shrink, soldering (nice to have), multimeters, labelers, and torque tools.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams/schematics and follow standard work.
- Basic PC skills for work instructions and data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 12V/24V DC vehicle or equipment wiring.
- Knowledge of ISO/IPC/UL wiring best practices (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing (5S, kanban, takt time, standard work).
- Prior work on composite utility bodies or vehicle upfits is a plus.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Stand, walk, reach, and use hands for 8–10 hours; lift/pull/push up to 40–50 lbs with or without accommodation.
- Work around moving equipment, hand/power tools, and moderate noise.
- Bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces or under/inside units to route wiring.
- Tolerance for adhesives, sealants, and standard shop chemicals (with PPE).
