Job Title: Family & Community Engagement Specialist
Location: Office of Communications
Pay Grade: Administrative and Professional Scale Grade A07
Work Calendar: All 12 Month Staff
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Office of Communications serves as the central point of connection for linking Stafford County Public Schools (Stafford Schools) with families, staff, and the broader community. Building strong, collaborative relationships and fostering two-way communication are essential to ensuring every student receives the support and opportunities needed to achieve educational excellence.
The Family & Community Engagement Specialist, reporting to the Director of Engagement, plays a key role in building meaningful partnerships between schools, families, and the community. This position supports outreach efforts, coordinates resources, and promotes programs that strengthen trust, engagement, and opportunities for all students and families.
This position will require regular flexibility to work evenings and weekends in support of students and families during community outreach initiatives.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student & Family Support
- Maintain the school division’s engagement vehicle program, SCOUT (Strengthening Community through Outreach, Understanding, and Trust) including scheduling, route planning, and coordination of staff as necessary.
- Assist in the development and implementation of engaging activities and programs to be offered on SCOUT for students, families, staff, and community members.
- Maintain the school division’s family support resources, including clothing closets, hygiene products, school supplies, food, and other essential needs.
- Collaborate with school staff, counselors, and administrators to identify student and family needs, coordinate referrals, and ensure timely access to available resources.
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Represent the school district at community events, meetings, and forums to promote school programs and engage with the public.
- Work with community agencies and organizations to enhance support programs that address community needs and integrate within a school setting.
- Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating various school and community programs, including back-to-school drives, student support initiatives, family engagement summits, and other events.
Administration & Data Management
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to program activities, participation, and outcomes.
- Assist with the preparation of annual reports summarizing program activities and statistical information.
- Utilize databases and other tools to track program data and assess the efficacy of engagement efforts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of experience in schools, family and/or community engagement, communications, public relations, customer service, or a related support role.
- Preferred experience in working with K-12 age children and/or a placement similar to an educational setting.
- Clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Pashto, Urdu, and/or Farsi/Dari preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; additional coursework or certifications related to the position preferred.

- Appropriate professional English grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and publication standards.
- Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Meet, and Google Chat.
- Basic content strategy for engagement.

- Clear and professional written communication for emails, memos, newsletters, web content, and other outreach materials.
- Proofreading and editing for clarity, accuracy, and correctness.

- Task prioritization and time management in fast-paced settings.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is primarily inside, but with regular outdoor engagement periods, where there is moderate noise and temperatures can fluctuate. There is no expected exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
