GENERAL SUMMARY


Performs all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a specialty clinic setting, including primary responsibility for the operation of electronic health records and electronic dictation systems. Primary goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician. This position will have no direct involvement in patient care. 


Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Provides leadership to team of scribes, as well as training for new hires and changes in policy/procedure.
  • Ensures that employees have the resources, tools, and training needed to perform their duties.
  • Oversee the performance of staff, including participation and providing information to the Clinical Supervisor for use in evaluations, disciplinary action, and terminations.
  • Oversee timekeeping system for staff to ensure employees are paid accurately.
  • Maintains schedule for staffing to ensure adequate coverage is available.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical office visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to patient medical history and physician exam, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants, and prepare referral letters as directed by the physician.
  • Identify mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors.
  • Ensure that all clinical data, lab and other tests results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record.
  • Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

  • Knowledge of current blood borne pathogen and bio-hazardous waste procedures as they apply to the duties of this position.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, and clinics functions.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other third-party payer’s guidelines.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate Degree (A.A) preferred or equivalent from two-year College or technical school.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
