Reports To:            Early Childhood Program Manager

Classification:       Full-time, Non-Exempt, 1.0 FTE 

Compensation:     $19.30 - $20.67 DOE

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural mission-driven professional with proven nonprofit and community experience with parent-child groups and one-on-one support for parents of young children (0-6 years old). Parent Educator to lead a full range of activities for a growing program. As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the Parent Educator is charged with supporting the Early Childhood Program Manager in program development and implementation. Parent Educator will work collaboratively with team members to facilitate parent-child groups, build community partnerships, and empower parents. Parent Educator has excellent communication skills with parents to identify and meet their own goals while supporting the development of their young children.


POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will provide families with culturally specific home visits, personal instruction, demonstrate appropriate educational activities; facilitate parent-child groups multiple times a month; maintain organized files for each family to support parent goals; deliver research-based curriculum and curriculum materials to parents regarding children development and related issues; conduct childhood screenings including, but not limited to, vision, hearing, the understanding and use of language, motor development, hand-eye coordination, health and physical development for children birth to age three.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support parent learning and delivery of information to families by implementing curriculum and strategies individualized for each family, including but not limited to Parents as Teachers (PAT), Nurturing Parenting, Assertive Engagement
  • Maintain a caseload of 15 families
  • Actively recruit families to participate in the program
  • Conduct home visits, developmental screenings, vision and hearing screenings
  • Plan and implement parent-child groups to promote wellness, family support, and healthy child development
  • Coordinate services with other community programs, and make referrals as needed
  • Represent Latino Network at various community events supporting families and/or young children
  • Support the philosophy and mission of Latino Network
  • Support the framework of Strengthening Families (promoting protective factors in the lives of families)
  • Complete all required documentation regarding home visits, attendance records for groups, screening summaries, and other reports requested by the program manager
  • Attend all required early childhood trainings and participate in trainings for positive communication, popular education, and other related topics as needed
  • Enter data and documentation using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO)
  • Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and existing confidentiality laws.

Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years education, training, and experience in culturally specific public health promotion, early childhood development, Popular Education, community based adult education and/or family engagement. Examples of experience, education and training that fulfill this requirement include, but are not limited to, volunteer or paid work, internships, community-based training and workshops, community college, trade school, university courses and degrees.  Experience, training, and education from inside and outside of the United States are considered equally.  Transferable skills and lived experience will be considered. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adults and their young children in an educational setting
  • Experience conducting home visits with low-income parents and children in a culturally responsive way preferred
  • Bilingual and Bi-literate Spanish required
  • Bicultural proficiency: knowledge of Latinx culturally based world view, adaptive reasoning, and problem-solving practices of Latinx individuals, families, and community living in urban neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity. 
  • Strong desire to promote educational equity in the community
  • Strong desire to work towards social justice within the context of early childhood
  • Organizational skills to meet necessary documentation requirements
  • Respect for diversity; desire and ability to work cross-culturally

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of initial and ongoing employment screens, including but not limited to criminal background and vehicle record as required
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet individuals in their own homes, academic settings, and other community settings, including transporting participants as needed. Automobile liability insurance preferred; must also be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability
  • Evening and weekend availability required. Work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Latino Network is a fast-paced, highly engaged work environment with satellite operations with positions performing work both onsite and remotely. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather).
