JOB TITLE:  Mechanical Maintenance Planner

DEPARTMENT: Generation - Jeffrey Energy Center
LOCATION:  St Marys, KS    
PAY RANGE:    $91,600 - $122,100 (Min-Mid)    
                        
Scheduled Work Hours:   Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  (Additional hours as required) Potential for alternate 9-80 rotation.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance Planner, Mechanical Maintenance work - The goal of the planning team is to achieve higher equipment reliability and improve maintenance effectiveness based on Reliability Centered Maintenance and Industry Best Practices.  Specific duties include:

  • Reports to the Planning Superintendent for all matters relating to the predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Provide job planning for the maintenance department to ensure prompt, efficient, and quality service from the maintenance function to internal and external customers such as Operations, Engineering, Substation Maintenance, Project Managers, Contractors, etc.
  • Utilize computerized tools (Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management (Synergen), Maximo, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, etc.) to perform planning tasks.
  • Develop detailed and complete work packages consisting of detailed work instructions, labor estimates, procedures, bills of material, specifications, drawings, tool and equipment requirements, applicable permits, service histories and any other information required by craft or contractor resources to complete work in an efficient manner with emphasis on quality.
  • Develop maintenance and construction work packages based upon engineering design specifications.
  • Develop detailed and complete preventative and predictive maintenance work orders based upon Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) data and recommendations. 
  • Develop weekly schedules to ensure we have work identified to be completed each week for the man hours available
  • Ensure that all parts and materials are available to complete work as planned.  Establish and monitor parts and materials inventory levels.
  • Interface with the predictive maintenance group on diagnostic/predictive maintenance activities.
  • Assist/support Root Cause Failure Analysis processes.  
  • Review incoming work requests, complete all pre-job planning activities, and review/incorporate all pertinent safety procedures.  Evaluate resource requirements (including labor, materials, equipment, tools and services) and make adjustments accordingly.
  • Routinely review and revise computerized maintenance management system database.
  • Provide coverage for Supervisor’s as needed with some weekend coverage possible.  
     

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and the knowledge, skills and abilities typically associated with Journeyman level industrial Mechanical maintenance experience.  Applicants with a degree in Mechanical engineering and four years of power plant engineering/project management experience may also be considered.  Preferred candidate will have general knowledge/experience industrial maintenance experience including a basic understanding of reliability-based maintenance.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  •  Detailed knowledge of maintenance and repair practices of large industrial equipment and their associated components such as bearings, pumps, gearboxes, valves, drives, and actuators.  Must possess adequate craft knowledge to estimate man hours and materials and to visualize the job to be performed.
  • Detailed knowledge of safe work practices and hazard control methods.
  • Working level knowledge of Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management (Synergen), Maximo, or equivalent.
  • Working level knowledge of Microsoft Office (or equivalent).
  • Excellent administrative skills with willingness to handle paperwork.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to determine equipment problems and appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other personnel including subordinates, peers, superiors, vendors, contractors and other contacts.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from schematics, files, drawings, catalogs, reports, and manuals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations involved in planning, estimating and purchasing.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities work in a highly demanding team atmosphere.  Ability to keep multiple jobs in controlled motion simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time/priority management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms and access through manway doors on vessels, large diameter piping, fans, ductwork, condensers and turbine.

     

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:
Much of the time will be spent in the power plant in a noisy industrial environment.  Must be able to respond on a 24-hour per day/seven day per week basis.  Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
