Counsellors provide individual and group counselling services, to students at UOW, in alignment with the University's strategic goals for enhancing the student experience. Utilising counselling services to support student retention, engagement, and success at UOW, employing a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach. Working largely with brief intervention approaches that leverage students' individual strengths and address their challenges to foster positive outcomes and holistic engagement at the University.
Additionally, this role is part of a team responsible for coordinating and delivering critical incident support, wellbeing services, welfare information, and referrals across a wide network of internal services at UOW and external expert services. Specifically, the position provides short-term counselling, mental health interventions, and crisis management. The support offered includes assessment, referral, support planning, and follow-up.
This role requires a strong understanding of complex legislative and policy frameworks to effectively assist students. It also contributes to a systemic approach to student wellbeing by developing preventative programs, offering training, enhancing knowledge and communities, and driving service improvements.
