TECHNICIAN SENSORY LAB - RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (AUSTIN, MN)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person in this position:

  • Implements & administers shelf- life testing of the various Hormel products, including items from Hormel plants and co-packers. Tasks include scheduling shelf-life panels, shelf-life cuttings, setting up routine testing in LabVantage LIMS & conducting the required shelf-life tests. 
  • Conducts sensory tests in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Recruits employees for Shelf-life Panels.
  • Responsible for proper and safe operation and maintenance of all relevant equipment in the Shelf-life areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated inclusive behavior, including treating others with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to show resiliency through staying engaged, and proactively holding oneself accountable.
  • Must be capable of working several hours in a 38°F cooler or for short periods of time in a 0°F freezer. 
  • Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly lifts 20-30 lbs. and may, on occasion, must lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of spreadsheets, databases &/or other commonly used programs.
  • Demonstrated use of strong organizational skills, prioritizing and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the metric system, scientific aptitude &/or food science experience.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment including Microsoft Office platform - Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of LabVantage LIMS.
  • Servsafe certification.
  • Ability to work independently.

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $16.75-$23.50 per hour, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
