Position Summary
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for upholding the critical leadership role within the procurement team, acting as a bridge between tactical purchasing functions and strategic sourcing. This individual will supervise the day-to-day activities of Buyers I–III, ensure efficient procurement operations, and support cross-functional collaboration across departments (e.g., Production, Planning, Finance, and Integrated Buyers).
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Leading, mentoring, and supporting the development of the Purchasing Department personnel.
- Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials. Making sure we’ve got the materials we need when we need them.
- Manage and maintain relationships with key suppliers, including handling escalations and performance scorecard evaluations.
- Works closely with Planning, Production, Integrated Buyers, Quality and Finance to stay in sync and solve problems fast.
- Identifying opportunities for cost savings, developing smarter buying strategies, and improving processes -- and helping bring those ideas to life; measuring the success of initiatives by driving down inventory costs.
- Support and implement sourcing strategies and continuous improvement initiatives in line with company goals.
- Assist with audits, vendor reviews, and compliance requirements.
- Stand in for the Senior Purchasing Manager during absences and contribute to department leadership meetings.
- Prepare reports and dashboards to communicate OKR’s, KPIs, risks, and opportunities to leadership.
- Help shape the future of the department as our BMSC team grows and evolves.
- Assist in special projects assigned.
Qualifications
Technical Skills Required
- Core Competencies: Results-oriented mindset, strategic thinker, leadership and development, process improvement, vendor management, decision making, communication and collaboration,
- Experience with ERP/MRP, preferably Sage X3
- Advanced skillset in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Strong problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Self-directed with ability to manage multiple programs, daily tasks, and team assignments concurrently.
- Strong process development skills driving team performance and supplier performance.
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree required or 10 or more years of Supply Chain experience in cosmetic industry.
- 5 – 7 years in Purchasing, preferably working in contract manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- The employee may be asked to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Works inside in an open office environment: must be available to work 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles, electrical, chemicals and moving parts.
- Prolonged use of computer screen.
