Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Core Curriculum, the K-12 Literacy Learning and School Support Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in developing, implementing, and supporting the Spotsylvania County Public Schools K-12 Literacy instructional program at both the division and school levels. Additionally, this individual provides professional learning for reading specialists and educators with a focus on utilization of the job-embedded division coaching model.
Essential Job Functions:
- Promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
- Works with other division specialists/directors to promote the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a Division, school culture and instructional program conducive to student literacy learning and staff professional growth.
- Supports, develops, and evaluates K-12 Literacy curriculum in collaboration with curriculum development teams.
- Provides assistance in the K-12 Literacy written (development of curriculum), taught (instructional strategies and resource development), and assessed (summative and performance assessments development) curriculum for all students.
- Supports school leadership in improving student learning in schools through observation, conferencing, coaching, and modeling.
- Provides targeted school and division professional learning for teachers, administrators, instructional coaches.
- Partners with school improvement teams to support the continuous school improvement plan (CSIP) as needed.
- Provides assistance to administrators in analyzing student performance data for the purpose of continuous improvement planning.
- Coordinates the purchase of materials/supplies and adoption of content curriculum resources
- Maintains awareness of current best practices and developments in K-12 Literacy by reading professional publications, participating in state meetings/professional workshops, and collaborating with state content leaders.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- Five (5) years of recent and successful teaching experience

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day), full-time position. The work schedule for this position is 7.5 hours worked per day, excluding lunch. This position is evaluated annually.
