Position Description
Travel Required
Major/Essential Functions
• Provide day-to-day supervision of the Allen Theatre, ensuring readiness, cleanliness, and functionality for all scheduled events.
• Serve as primary point of contact for renters, clients, and campus partners; confirm event details and ensure technical and operational needs are met.
• Oversee operation of all Allen Theatre technical systems (lighting, sound, projection, rigging, stage equipment), verifying accuracy, safety, and up-to-date configuration.
• Use EMS/Mazevo reports to coordinate theatre reservations, turnovers, and staffing needs; confirm bookings are properly resourced.
• Monitor rehearsals, setup/teardown, and day-of execution; troubleshoot and escalate issues to the Assistant Director as needed.
• Capture post-event notes, client feedback, and service issues for continuous improvement.
Student Crew Supervision, Training & Scheduling
• Supervise Allen Theatre Student Assistants; assign daily tasks, verify completion, and provide in-the-moment coaching.
• Deliver effective training on theatre operations, technical systems, safety, equipment handling, and customer service to ensure competency across all event types.
• Build and maintain student schedules in alignment with EMS/Mazevo event bookings; ensure adequate coverage for rehearsals, events, and daily theatre responsibilities.
• Coordinate cross-training of student assistants and full-time staff across the Student Union to ensure consistency in audio/visual support.
Technical Systems Oversight & Maintenance
• Oversee technical theatre equipment inventory, including lighting, sound, projection, rigging, and staging systems; ensure usability and reliability for all events.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and replacements in partnership with vendors and Student Union Operations.
• Research emerging technologies and best practices through journals, conferences, and professional networks; recommend upgrades to keep the Allen Theatre a relevant and competitive venue.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment condition, usage, and upgrade cycles.
Cross-Venue Audio/Visual Support & Documentation
• Provide AV and technical expertise for events in other Student Union spaces (Red Raider Ballroom, Matador Room, Escondido Theatre, meeting rooms, and outdoor spaces).
• Use EMS/Mazevo and diagramming tools (e.g., Social Tables) to produce accurate room maps, turnover plans, and service orders when supporting events beyond the Allen.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge in all aspects of technical theatre.
- Bachelor's degree in theatre or related field.
- 5-10 years experience in related field.
- Experience in LED lighting systems.
- Experience with both portable and installed sound systems.
