Job Summary

The UCSF Division of Geriatrics seeks to recruit a Program Coordinator to support the Advancing the Science of Palliative Care Research Across the Lifespan (ASCENT) consortium. 

Funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the ASCENT consortium will transform the field of palliative care research, generating new knowledge and methods, developing and expanding the palliative care field, and facilitating implementation to enhance the experience of persons with serious illness and their caregivers across the lifespan.  Reporting directly to the Site Principal Investigator (PI) overseeing the Pilot/Exploratory Studies Core (Pilot Core), the Program Coordinator will assist with all administrative aspects of the Pilot Core, including pre-award tasks (developing annual Research Priorities and Pilot Research Funding Announcements (RFAs) in conjunction with the Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) and  ASCENT leadership; RFA distribution; managing Letters of Intent (LOI) and associated materials; organizing Scientific Review Committee meetings in conjunction with the Pepper Center Research Education Core (REC) Program Manager; responding to applicant administrative questions) and post-award tasks (working on awards with the core site at the University of Colorado; managing a database of awardees that tracks progress toward study milestones; assistance with annual reporting to the NIA; organizing monthly works-in-progress sessions; organizing the annual scientific meeting).

The Program Coordinator will perform a broad range of duties that will require analytical, organizational, communication, technical, and coordination skills.  Specific duties may include: coordinating and managing project timelines and deliverables, researching and applying relevant policies, data collection, management, analyses and reporting, preparing and updating study protocols/procedures, coordinating meeting schedules / agendas / minutes, drafting and updating research documents, making program-related purchases and submitting expense reports, conducting literature searches/reviews, supporting manuscript preparation, as well as supporting other research-related tasks such as website maintenance, gathering contents for Twitter, as well as circulating newsletters and managing other output platforms for research dissemination, where needed.  This position requires the ability to be proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of flexibility.  An ideal candidate will have a strong interest in geriatrics and/or palliative care research, be able to work independently with minimal supervision, balances multiple competing priorities at any given time, and is intellectually curious, willing to learn new skills and a problem-solver.  The Program Coordinator may also support ancillary projects in a similar capacity as needed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $62,500 - $93,800 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.  Proficient in MS Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interest in geriatrics and/or palliative care research
  • Experience in using Qualtrics/REDCap/other surveying platforms.
  • Experience working in research administration, managing NIH programs, and working in an academic institution.
  • Previous experience using project management tools and software, website management and managing social media platforms.
