The RN Clinic Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire nursing practice of the multispecialty surgical clinic. The nurse manager will be responsible for the professional nursing practice and patient care delivery within the outpatient operations. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, promotes nursing best practices, and enhances patient satisfaction. The nurse manager will collaborate with the Executive Director of Clinical Operations, Clinic Administrators, Physician leadership, and other multidisciplinary healthcare teams to improve clinical outcomes, manage resources effectively, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Manage and mentor nursing staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional development. Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and open communication 
  • Ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care to patients in the outpatient setting. Monitor patient care processes and outcomes implementing improvements as necessary 
  • Works closely with surgeons, and other healthcare practitioners to coordinate patient care. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings as needed to meet any operational challenges  
  • Provide immediate support or education on policy, procedures, equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for learning, implementing, and teaching new technology/procedures and best practices 
  • Collaborate with different departments to resolve issues and improve work flow processes throughout the department.
  • Facilitates orientation and onboarding activities, evaluation effectiveness of orientation
  • Responsible for continuous performance management and professional development of clinical team members and conducts formal performance appraisals
  • Assesses team member satisfaction and develops and implements strategies to promote retention and to recognize and reward team members
  • Leads performance improvement activities, identifying key performance indicators, evaluating performance data, and responding to outcome measure findings
  • Promote patient centered care by involving patients and their families in care decisions and fostering a supportive environment. Address patient concerns and complaints promptly, ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction
  • Promotes evidence-based practices, monitors patient safety, reports adverse events, and facilitates real-time-root-cause problem solving
  • Supports a culture of innovation by integrating technology into patient care processes and using information systems to support business clinical decisions
  • Facilitates change management and participates in project management and strategic planning activities within Ambulatory Outpatient Operations to enhance the UNLV Health strategic plan
  • Builds and maintains strong interdisciplinary relationships through influence, communication, collaboration, and shared decision-making and understands components of culture competence as applicable to the healthcare workforce
  • Monitors and promotes workplace safety requirements and maintains survey and regulatory readiness
  • Practices ethical behavior and supports nursing standards and scopes of practice
  • Maintains clinical competency to provide patient care as needed. Stay current on outpatient nursing practices and incorporate them into clinical protocols 
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development
  • Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment.
  • Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a clinical setting required
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required/preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required; or must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification required; or must obtain within 6 months of hire 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and medical assistants 
  • Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process
  • Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and procedure
  • Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
  • Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up
  • Able to record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation, and re-evaluation of patient status
  • Able to use computer and learn new software programs
  • Able to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients
  • Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking
  • Able to remain focused and organized
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc.)
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods
  • May include performing repetitive tasks
  • May include working on a special schedule (i.e., evenings and weekends)
  • May include working with challenging patients and clients
  • May include lifting up to 25 pounds
