About the Department
The City of Palo Alto's Utilities Department (CPAU) is seeking a AMI Data Analyst (Staff Specialist-H) to assist with developing and maintaining an SQL database that will contain electric, water and natural gas metering information from CPAU’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The position will also support analysis of this information to guide decisions related to retail rate making, electric distribution system planning, and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) planning.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills and a creative problem-solving mindset, able to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Primary responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a SQL Database containing AMI interval meter data
- Write queries to extract and analyze data
- Work with CPAU stakeholders to understand their informational needs and provide data/analysis to meet their needs
- Work with non-AMI datasets as needed (e.g. SCADA, GIS, customer program data)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited University or College.
Skills in using SQL database and writing queries, Python, R, Excel, PowerPoint.
AMI data analysis experience highly preferred.
Work Schedule and Duration
The position is part-time and on an on-call basis, with flexible work hours. The weekly time commitment will vary depending on project needs and the availability of the individual in this role. The position will primarily be remote, but the ability to come to our offices in Palo Alto periodically, as needed, is highly preferred. The initial term is 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on need and budget availability.
