Role Summary:
The Commissions Accounting Manager is the senior-most position on the Broker-Dealer Commissions team, reporting directly to the Director of Commissions & FINOP. This role oversees commissions processing for M Holdings Securities (a registered Broker-Dealer) and is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate completion of the team’s day-to-day functions, while also leading process improvements, data management initiatives, and providing escalation support to internal and external stakeholders. This position also serves as the primary escalation point for commission-related questions from M team members and M Member Firms regarding Registered Representatives of the Broker-Dealer. In addition, this role is responsible for commissions accounting and reconciliations, back-office systems analysis, and data integrity.

Responsibilities:

Accounting Close

  • Lead and perform monthly and quarterly close activities in NetSuite for the Broker-Dealer (M Holdings Securities).
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Support monthly revenue recognition and reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and file monthly regulatory filings.
  • Prepare audit-ready workpapers and supporting documentation; serve as a key contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit and Accounting teams to document and test internal controls.
  • Prepare requested workpapers and documentation; serve as a key contact during regulatory exams and respond to examiner inquiries.
  • Prepare and file annual 1099s for MHS Registered Representatives, coordinating with the internal Tax Team and providing support to recipients on questions.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial presentations and reporting packages for senior management and Board-level meetings.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities, working with teammates and cross-functional partners.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and deliver insights in a clear, actionable format.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Commissions Processing

  • Oversee the end-to-end processing of commissions for M Holdings Securities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with product provider agreements and internal policies.
  • Manage commission-related cash receipts, reconciliations, and supervisory fees, ensuring proper recording within broker-dealer and accounting systems (BRACS, NetSuite, Commissions on Demand, Prism).
  • Partner with Commission Specialists, M Member Firms, and internal teams to resolve data discrepancies, answer escalated questions, and maintain accurate Registered Representative payment information.
  • Develop and deliver commission reporting and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Lead continuous improvements to commission practices, reporting, and system processes, maintaining clear process documentation.

Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of professional staff including commissions processing and reporting and is responsible for ensuring the timeliness, completeness and accuracy of their associated processes.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of team operations, assuring that teams are functioning per established policies and procedures and providing strong customer service to internal and external partners, customers and vendors.
  • Own onboarding, training and development of Commission Specialists by creating and implementing training plans.
  • Identify training gaps and needs and tailor training programs and materials as needed to fit individual needs.
  • Perform peer-review of commissions received from insurance companies, mutual fund companies and various other financial services product providers.

Ad Hoc Requests and Reporting

  • Serve as project manager and project team member on various Accounting and Finance Team or Broker Dealer projects.
  • Support other departmental projects and data requests as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a broker-dealer or financial services environment
  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems strongly preferred; experience with BRACS or other commission processing systems a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Willingness and ability to obtain FINRA Series 27 or Series 28 and other regulatory licenses as deemed necessary
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data visualization or analytics tools a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present financial data clearly
  • Collaborative team player who is proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and work independently with minimal supervision

Job Conditions & Environment:

  • This position is based on-site at our offices in Uptown at the Quad in Dallas, TX with the flexibility to work one day per week remotely
  • Normal office environment/desk assignment
  • Extensive use of PC’s, computer terminal, display, keyboard, and mouse
  • Extensive work with documents, spreadsheets, and other written documents
