About the Role:
The Senior Accountant in the Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction industry plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial operations specific to this sector. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with industry regulations, and the effective management of complex accounting transactions related to extraction activities. The Senior Accountant will lead the preparation of financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights to support operational and investment decisions. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the mining, quarrying, or oil and gas extraction industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards applicable to the extraction sector.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP systems commonly used in the mining and oil and gas industries, such as SAP or Oracle.
- Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance specific to the natural resources sector.
- Advanced degree such as a Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Experience in financial risk management and internal audit processes.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
- Manage the accounting processes related to asset capitalization, depletion, and impairment specific to mining and extraction operations.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support operational planning and capital expenditure decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to ensure accurate cost accounting and financial reporting related to production activities.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.
