About the Department
This is a professional contracted position responsible for the implementation of the Massage Therapy Occupational Certificate program at Florida Gateway College. Administration of the learning process (teaching) is to be accomplished in accordance with Federal regulation, Florida State Law, and Florida Gateway College Board Policies.
Position Duties

- Maintain responsibility for the organization, administration, continuous program review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
- Maintain responsibility for the appropriate budget for their program area.
- Maintain regulatory requirements for the programs including self-study reports, progress reports, and annual reports.
- Conduct follow-up surveys on graduate job placement, alumni educational advancement and employer satisfaction as required.
- Evaluate/revise the curriculum yearly. Review with the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences yearly and as necessary.
- Arrange class schedules prior to each semester confirming with faculty.
- Review textbooks and communicate these needs to the textbook committee.
- Supervise instruction in areas of syllabi, lesson plans, tests, course offerings, and sequences under the guidance of the Dean of N&HS.
- Advise prospective and current Massage Therapy students.
- Orient new students to facility and classrooms to include safety procedures.
- Complete annual faculty evaluations for full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Use teaching and learning strategies that reflect each student’s culture, learning styles, special needs, and socio-economic background.
- Adhere to Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.
- Use an understanding of learning and human development to provide a positive learning environment which supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the subject matter.
- Create and maintain positive learning environments in which students are actively engaged in learning, social interaction, cooperative learning and self-motivation.
Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of massage therapy principles. Knowledge of state laws affecting massage therapy program operations. Ability in numerical reasoning and verbal expression. Ability in written communication. Ability to present information in a coherent manner and the ability to fairly evaluate student retention of that information. Computer literate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a state-approved massage therapy program, an associate’s degree in a health or education related field, hold an unencumbered Massage Therapy license, and a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice in massage therapy.
DESIRED EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in any health, education or related field.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
Moderate (15 to 44 lbs.) lifting and carrying.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works inside in an office/clinic/classroom environment.
