About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. 

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with business units and leaders across FirstEnergy, contributing to strategic and forward-thinking initiatives that shape the company’s environmental, social, governance, and climate related narrative. The Corporate Responsibility (CR) team plays a vital role in aligning FirstEnergy’s actions and communications with stakeholder expectations and industry best practices.

The selected individual will lead efforts to develop and enhance FirstEnergy’s CR Report and related disclosures, ensuring transparency, consistency, accuracy and strategic alignment across the organization. This role reports to the Manager, Corporate Responsibility.

This position will report into the Akron, OH Headquarters.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and publication of the annual CR Report, including project planning, stakeholder engagement, strategic content development, and publication.
  • Lead the company’s third-party ESG ratings response efforts for various rating organization and framework reporting efforts – CDP, MSCI, Sustainalytics, GRESB, EEI, GRI, SASB, and IISB.  This includes data coordination, process development, analysis, data validation, and data analytics.
  • Conduct gap analyses of FirstEnergy’s disclosures and initiatives and make suggestions to team leadership on opportunities to work with business units to close gaps.  As appropriate, lead cross-functional teams to close selected gaps. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex initiatives from concept to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts and leadership.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proactive and independent work style.
  • Demonstrates a strategic mindset, with the ability to think critically and innovatively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Word, for report development and presentations.
  • Present findings and updates to leadership, contributing to internal awareness and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Communications, Business, or related discipline required. 
  • Minimum 2+ years  work experience is required. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex initiatives from concept to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts and leadership.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proactive and independent work style.
  • Demonstrates a strategic mindset, with the ability to think critically and innovatively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Word, for report development and presentations.

Preferred experience, but not required:

  • Experience in corporate responsibility or sustainability reporting.
  • Familiarity with ESG frameworks such as GRI, SASB, ISSB and CDP.
  • Understanding of materiality assessments and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Experience developing leadership-ready presentations and communications.
  • Experience with reporting tools, like Workiva
