About the Team:
Our global team support products education electronic health records that introduce students to digital charting and prepare them to document care in today’s modern clinical environment. We have a very stable product that we’ve worked to get to and strive to maintain. Our team values trust, respect, collaboration, agility, and quality.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Product Manager to own and drive the evolution of our internal developer portal, with Backstage as its backbone. This is a unique opportunity to shape the developer experience across all tools, services, and platforms we manage, ensuring that our engineering community can discover, consume, and manage resources effectively—while also encouraging reuse and minimizing wasted effort.
Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Vision: Define and articulate a compelling product strategy for the internal developer portal, aligning it with our broader Developer Experience and Enablement goals, with a strong focus on promoting reuse and minimizing duplication.
Roadmap Planning & Prioritisation: Define, maintain, and communicate the product roadmap, ensuring prioritisation reflects strategic objectives, developer needs, and stakeholder alignment.
Market & User Research: Conduct or coordinate research activities to capture user insights, analyse market trends, and assess the competitive landscape—either directly or in partnership with a dedicated researcher.
Go-To-Market (GTM) Planning & Product Lifecycle Ownership: Lead the creation of GTM plans and oversee the full product lifecycle—from ideation through launch and continuous improvement.
Backstage Implementation & Ownership: Drive the adoption and continuous improvement of Backstage, ensuring it supports key use cases like service catalog, documentation, templates, and reusable assets.
Developer-Centric Focus: Collaborate closely with developers to understand their pain points, workflows, and reuse challenges—ensuring the portal helps them find and leverage existing solutions rather than reinventing them.
Reuse Enablement: Develop and champion features that make reusable assets (e.g. components, APIs, templates, best practices) discoverable, accessible, and easy to integrate. Create a culture of sharing and collaboration through the portal.
Technical Integration: Partner with engineering teams to integrate the portal with CI/CD pipelines, cloud resources, observability, and other key developer tools to make reuse seamless within the development lifecycle.
Product Backlog Management: Translate the product vision into actionable stories and epics, maintaining a well-prioritized backlog that balances developer needs, technical feasibility, and business goals.
Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the voice of the developer while balancing business objectives, collaborating with other product managers, engineering teams, and leadership to ensure alignment.
Metrics & Feedback Loops: Define success metrics for the portal (including reuse metrics), track adoption and usage, and leverage feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Community & Collaboration: Foster a culture of collaboration by encouraging teams to contribute their reusable assets and best practices to the portal.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Product Manager or Technical Product Owner for developer-facing products, developer portals, or technical platforms.
A technical background (e.g., software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering) or equivalent experience that enables you to engage credibly with technical teams and understand their workflows.
Deep understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, microservices, cloud platforms, and developer tooling.
Experience driving collaboration initiatives—championing best practices, encouraging contributions, and breaking down silos.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A passion for improving developer experience, productivity, and satisfaction.
