Summary of Job Duties:
The Clinical Specialist (CS) is a licensed registered nurse who functions within the three spheres of influence; patient-nurse-system. Must possess advanced knowledge of nursing practice and the ability to apply standards within the ambulatory practice areas. The CS functions independently to provide theory and evidence-based knowledge that shapes the practice and core competencies for the ambulatory nursing staff. The CS provides area leadership in collaboration with the administrative leaders focusing on orientation, professional development, skills/competency validation, evidence-based practice, shared governance, regulatory compliance, nurse sensitive quality indicators, and performance improvement. The CS collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and functions in the healthcare system as a leader, consultant, and change agent and, therefore, must possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.
The Hospital Medicine Unit (H6) is a 30-bed medical/surgical patient care unit that provides 24 hour care to acutely ill patients as well as palliative care for specialty patients and hospice patients. H6 provides care to a wide variety of patients such as Liver Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, Respiratory Conditions, Immune Systems Diseases, Gastro-Intestinal Disease, and Musculoskeletal/Integumentary Diseases. Remote telemetry is available for patients who are presenting with clinical cardiac concerns who present with a history of cardiac disease. We also provide pre/postoperative care as well. The patient population ranges from young adult to geriatric.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
BSN required Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Active BLS. Experience in the hiring area
Four (4) years of clinical experience with two (2) years in a specialty area and two (2) years in a leadership role (i.e., RN IV, Charge Nurse, or Team Lead
Current Registered Nurse License
BLS
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s in Nursing preferred
Experience in an academic medical setting
National Nursing Certification in the specialty area for the position
Knowledgeable in medical terminology
Special knowledge, abilities and skills:
Able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with others effectively
Ability to document services provided
Understanding of regulatory and compliance organizations/agencies
Excellent customer relations skills
Understands and abides by confidentiality policies

Performs Role of Clinical Specialist
Assesses and designs training and/or educational programs to address identified deficiencies/learning needs.
The CS understands and assures the use of adult learning principles and culturally appropriate initiatives and imparts this knowledge to faculty/staff as appropriate.
This position will identify barriers or concerns which interfere with the learning process and suggests alternatives for resolution; consults with departments, staff, managers to determine goals.
The Clinical Specialist will establish and lead process improvement initiatives.
