This is a hybrid role where the commercial lead will drive an enhanced commercial performance in the business unit. The deliverables will be dictated by the financial period calendar to align with our reporting requirements. The role will require interaction with Mace project owners and the Mace finance team. This will allow the candidate to create their own working arrangements to suit the deliverables of the role. The candidate will be reporting directly to the Business Unit Director.

The success of the role will be measured by enhanced gross contribution of projects, reduced debt and reduced accruals.

Equally consistency and accuracy of reporting on a period basis. Ultimately if we can demonstrate the success of the role there would be growth opportunity to take the lead in:

Commercial director for the BU to include all commercial aspects of delivery.
Supporting bids with commercial strategy.
Directing BU KPI and target setting.
Directing the future business planning for 2030.
Financing lead for BU.
Progressing to Associate Director.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing the commercial sector commercial function to drive business unit leading commercial performance and delivery including:
  • Setting business plan targets for annual plans 2026 to 2030.
  • Setting sector targets for performance.
  • Reporting on period performance at BU, sector and project level.
  • Driving margin improvement.
  • Establishing reporting for period reports.
  • Driving project performance with PM at WB level.
  • Forming trends analysis for project to forecast performance.
  • Driving deep dive meetings at project level to drive project performance.
  • Managing dept reporting for the BU.
  • Managing invoice performance for BU.
  • Attending BU debt meeting.
  • Managing the BU FR reporting.
  • Managing BU accrual reporting.
  • Supporting BU bids with rate card data.
  • Creating reports and dashboards that support BU SLT action planning.
  • Supporting BU resource management (form WB review).
  • Managing BU OH analysis and cost data.

You’ll need to have:

  • Right to work in the UK, or ability to obtain a VISA.
  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership i.e. MRICS/RICS (or equivalent) and moving towards fellowship, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.  
  • Commercial and financial acumen.  
  • Experience of managing parts of projects within large, diverse teams.  
  • Experience of managing relationships at all levels.
