Job Summary:

 

This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing and is responsible for providing the highest level of environmental, health & safety services to Avet Pharma. This position will focus on the recognition, evaluation, and control of EHS risk at the facilities and the overall compliance of the site to EPA, OSHA, and state and local codes. The position will act as the site lead on EHS measures and work to build a strong culture of EHS compliance at the site to support and protect the people and property assets of Avet Pharma.

 

Reporting Relationships                                

  •  This position has no direct reports.

Essential Functions:

 

  • Building strong interpersonal relations with managers and employees to guide and drive the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) culture and compliance activities at the site
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to employees when appropriate to promote and influence continuous EHS improvement
  • Maintaining safety guidelines, procedures, and policies
  • Identifying areas of EHS improvement in the production, lab, and warehouse operations/procedures based on experience, guidelines, and industry standards
  • Managing development, design, and implementation of EHS improvement projects
  • Training of new hire employees on EHS procedures, hazardous waste handling, and lab safety
  • Oversee and conduct comprehensive PPE fitting sessions for new hires and existing employees, ensuring proper selection, sizing, and usage in compliance with OSHA standards and company safety protocols
  • Performing daily walk-throughs in all the areas (labs, production, warehouses) of all facilities to check if there are any unsafe conditions and mitigate any potential risks/hazards
  • Investigate industrial accidents to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Record, track, and document concerns brought by employees to ensure proper follow-up and resolution. Conduct the effective, thorough, and objective investigation as needed
  • Maintaining the flow of environmentally hazardous waste with external recycling/waste processors, providing oversight to record-keeping requirements, and performing activities related to routine and bi-annual reporting requirements 
  • Communicating safety and environmental training topics
  • Maintaining and filing documentation needed for reporting to controlling agencies
  • Annual reporting of Injury and Illness Work-Related Summary to OSHA
  • Annual calculation and filing of Incident Rate to OSHA
  • Reporting on safety and environmental issues at the site and enacting remediation plans
  • Developing, writing, publishing, and training on OHSA & EPA related programs and procedures
  • Creating, maintaining, and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for EHS-related procedures
  • Managing routine testing of wastewater by an external laboratory
  • Providing Environmental, Health, and Safety briefings, direction, and escorts to contractors in the facilities
  • Performing inspections of fire extinguishers and emergency exit signs and lighting
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
  • Managing site safety & security procedures to include management of the badge system for employees, temps, contractors, and visitors
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Specialized Skills and Knowledge:                 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or safety engineering with 6 or more years of direct experience in an EHS role supporting a manufacturing organization.
  • CSP, HAZWOPER, or other environmental certifications desired.
  • Pharmaceutical experience a plus
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, & procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA-related laws, regulations & procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail and judgmental capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop work processes and establish standards
  • Ability to follow up, communicate and work with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Physical Demands/Factors:


Work is primarily sedentary; routine bending, walking, lifting, and reaching are required. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands; talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 kg (55 lbs).  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Compensation and Benefits:


Compensation:


This is an exempt salaried position; the pay range is $130,000 to $155,000 per year.


In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus which aligns to both individual and company performance.
