Position Title: Energy Technician Journeyman I

Scope & Responsibilities of Energy Technician Journeyman I: (Not limited to)

  • Determine types of insulation, amounts and methods of installation for piping vessels and tanks throughout the refinery.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
  • Install all types and sizes of pipe insulation and jackets on flanges, valves, tanks and fittings.
  • General knowledge in fish mouths metal work on piping insulate and metal valves cut and roll metal build end caps. 
  • Knowledge of inspection port installation.
  • Make minor refractory repairs to fired heaters and boilers; repair and maintain tank insulation.
  • Assist, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair steam traps and other ancillary equipment.
  • Use ARG’s Steam Trap Management System.
  • Conducts insulating inventory, estimates time and material costs for projects and requisitions supplies or equipment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.

Education & Experience for Energy Technician Journeyman I:

  • High School Graduate/GED with minimum two to five (2-5) years pipe fitting and insulation experience.
  • Trade or Vocational Education preferred.
  • Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Successfully pass medical qualifications and maintain Respirator Certification; able to wear all types of respiratory equipment.
  • Willing and able to pass certification requirements for ongoing asbestos testing.
    • Proficient in the use of computers and basic office technologies including Microsoft Office applications.
    • Possess strong verbal, written and organizational skills.

 

Other Qualifications of Energy Technician Journeyman I:

  • Able to read, write and take measurements to calculate the amounts of material needed for various jobs.
  • Proper use of ladders, scaffold, and safe lifting procedures.
  • Safe and proper use of shop and hand tools, forklifts, JLG man lifts or any other equipment necessary to perform job functions.
  • Understand and follow the Lockout/Tagout regulations and Open Line/Entry permit requirements.
  • Wear all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety policies; follow good housekeeping practice keeping work areas clean and orderly.  
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays &/or callouts as needed to support business activities.
  • Basic computer knowledge, Microsoft Office applications as well as other applicable software.
  • Successful completion of all computer based company mandated job related training. 

 

Physical & Cognitive Demands of Energy Technician Journeyman I:

  • Physical coordination with ability to perform repetitive tasks and movements such as kneeling, stooping, walking, crawling, reaching, twisting, bending standing and sitting.
  • Capable of climbing, entering vessels through standard manways and working in elevated locations or confined spaces in all weather conditions.
  • Possess sufficient physical strength and endurance to perform work from ladders, heights or overhead while standing on feet &/or with arms extended for long periods of time.
  • Work in extreme heat or cold environments with exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Capable of handling materials in a variety of forms and packaging with the capacity to push, pull, lift &/or transport up to 50lbs.
  • Cognitive demands include the ability to meet deadlines, focus attention, perform repetitive tasks, assess spatial relations, work with a team, communicate effectively, read and comprehend, think critically and troubleshoot.
