About the Department

The teaching faculty are responsible for instructing students on-campus, off- campus, on-line and by web-enhanced courses in accordance with College policy and procedures; advising students; maintaining professional competence; and participating in professional development activities. Faculty members are responsible to a Program Manager and a Department Chair. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor and facilitator of learning.

Position Duties

*9 Month position with start date of January 5th 2026*

  • Assisting with planning, implementation and evaluation and revision of curriculum and NAEYC standards
  • Communicating all pertinent information regarding policies, objectives, course requirements, evaluation methods, grading system and any other aspects pertinent to each course, to students and others.
  •  Maintaining accurate, timely records pertaining to student progress and behaviors
  •  Making appropriate referrals for students experiencing academic, personal, or other problems.
  •  Making and developing contacts with high quality child care centers for student placement for lab experiences.
  •  Become knowledgeable concerning NC Division of Child Development’s Star Rating Licensing Systems and Licensing Standards.
  •  Supervising students in field placement settings 
  •  Preparing and conducting student evaluations
  •  Working with child care programs to in coordinate student field placement settings
  •  Participating in professional and institutional activities
  •  Assisting in recruitment of students
  •  Planning, implementing and evaluating innovative ideas in instruction
  •  Participate in Moodle training and updated training activities related to online instruction.
  •  Participate in staff development activities determined to be essential in upgrading and enhancing on-line classes
  •  Participate in usage of the Literacy and Sensory labs located in the HCC Regional Center for the Advancement of Children.
  •  Ensure that college and child care licensing regulations are followed.
  •  Serve on college and other committees as assigned
  •  Perform other duties and responsibilities as required 
  • Participate in activities required as part of National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation for the Department.
  • Demonstrate innovation in teaching, particularly in the online format
  • Integrate and expand technology into teaching

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum:
Master’s degree in Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education or Child Development and Family Relationships. Prior to August 1, must have 2 years’ experience as a direct service provider in a licensed preschool program. Must have experience in teaching and teaching principles for adult education. 
 
Preferred Qualification:
PhD. in Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education or Child Development and Family Relationships. Previous teaching experience in NAEYC accredited school. Previous teaching experience in distance learning format with knowledge of Moodle.
