The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking a Director, Quality Innovation located in our Rosemont, IL. office responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for quality innovation, augmented intelligence and performance measurement activities at the AAD. Oversee and direct the development and use of performance measures for Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) Quality Payment Program (QPP). Acts as staff liaison to Committees, Councils, Workgroups and Task Forces (CCTF’s) focusing on augmented intelligence, performance measurement, QI and patient safety. Cultivate collaborative relationships with cross-departmental and cross-divisional colleagues, members, CCTF’s and external organizations to advance the Academy’s agenda for measuring, demonstrating and continuously improving the quality, safety and value of dermatology. Provide strategic oversight and subject matter guidance on the responsible integration of Augmented Intelligence (AI) into quality improvement initiatives and dermatologic care. Lead efforts to evaluate, validate, and promote the use of AI-enabled tools and algorithms that enhance clinical decision-making, reduce diagnostic error, and improve patient outcomes in dermatology.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic vision, direction, and execution oversight for AAD’s Quality Innovation portfolio, with a strong focus on quality improvement initiatives, performance measurement, and data-driven innovation.
  • Overseeing the strategic integration of Augmented Intelligence (AI) into dermatologic quality improvement by guiding the evaluation and validation of AI tools that enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. Collaborates across teams to ensure ethical, evidence-based use of AI and supports related education and policy initiatives aligned with the Academy’s innovation goals.

 

  • Oversee the development, promotion, and advancement of Academy programs in quality improvement. Includes the development of new quality improvement tools, resources and peer-learning strategies that help members actively participate in QI efforts. Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the Quality products and programs and monitor associated revenue and expenses. Monitor trends to inform these efforts and actively contribute Academy perspectives to the evolving dialogue.

 

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the development, promotion, and advancement of Academy programs in performance measurement.  Lead and contribute to the development of new and update of existing performance measures that will help members and the specialty demonstrate quality, value, safety, appropriateness and outcomes of care. Ensure the validity, reliability, feasibility and integrity of measures, assuring that measures meet internal and external standards, while minimizing reporting burden. Identify strategic opportunities to increase the number of measures available and applicable to dermatology practice. 

 

  • Monitor the activities of, liaise with, and serve as the AAD’s representative to external stakeholder organizations. Oversee licensing of Quality products and strategies for innovative partnerships with external stakeholder organizations.   Evaluate, recommend, and present innovative products and initiatives and collaborations based on knowledge gained from internal and external stakeholders. 

 

  • Work collaboratively with DataDerm staff to ensure the quality and integrity of registry data fields, measure specifications, and data output. Utilize DataDerm as appropriate to inform measure development and QI initiatives.  Facilitate translation of DataDerm quality measures data into relevant resources for Academy members to understand and implement QI. 

 

  • Collaborate with Advocacy and Policy staff in strategizing for and in the development of MIPS Value Pathways and other QPP initiatives.

 

  • Work with members and colleagues across Academy departments to create, market, and implement resources that assist with the understanding and application of translating evidence into practice and demonstrating value in dermatology practice.
     
     
  • Utilize benchmarking reports, other data analytics and literature to help evaluate and determine what measures, programs, and resources are needed. Maintain working knowledge and awareness of the resource environment to help develop a multi-year product strategy.

 

Requirements:

  • Advanced level degree in policy, public health, health administration, social or behavioral sciences required. 
  • Minimum of twelve years’ experience developing performance measures, quality improvement or related projects.  Minimum of six years’ experience in healthcare environment.  
  • Minimum of eight years of people management experience with a combination of direct supervision experience and leading, training, and coaching non-direct reports. 
  • Understanding of the environment as it relates to quality and patient safety measurement and improvement, access and delivery, public reporting, clinical data registries, and value-based payment. 
  • Understanding of measurement science and the continuum of measurement as it applies to the physician sphere: guidelines, payment, Continuing Certification, accountability, quality improvement, etc.   
  • Understanding of improvement science, theories and application of translating evidence into practice, and scalability of improvement tools and projects.  
  • Ability to direct team efforts to successfully develop numerous complex performance measurement and quality improvement efforts, data collection, and CCTF projects with varying timelines and priority.  
  • Skill in communicating complex topics verbally and in writing, including the distillation of complicated concepts into comprehensible deliverables for multiple audiences.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor budgets and expenses. Able to organize and evaluate information, alternatives, cost/benefits, risks and rewards. Evaluate the cost/benefit of solutions.
  • Must have the ability to supervise people and work processes.  Must have good organizational skills, excellent writing ability, ability to juggle multiple deadlines, and analytical and research skills. Strong customer service and volunteer relations skills.
