UGL Utilities Operations & Maintenance business is a trusted provider of essential services across power, water, and gas sectors. With a strong reputation and long-standing contracts in power distribution, transmission, and water operations and maintenance, we are poised for significant growth. A new position has arisen for a HSE Operations Manager to be responsible and accountable for providing direction and support for all health and safety matters for utilities programs and projects Australia wide.
The Opportunity
The role will support the HSE Operations Manager in driving improvements in HSE performance through alignment and delivery of programs, and identification and management of HSE risks nationally across the Utilities O&M business.
Key responsibilities:
· Promote and implement One HSE Culture Framework and programs including critical risk management.
· Provide assistance and guidance to operations management and other staff on HSE issues and risks.
· Deliver services largely tactical in nature with day-to-day direction determined by business needs.
· Assist with audits conducted on HSE project compliance.
· Support the UGL tendering process and client engagement in relation to project reviews.
· Provide advice to ensure the Sectors compliance with UGL’s accreditation for:
o ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems;
o ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems; and
o ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems.
· Work closely with the Injury Management and P&C Teams to support the implementation of return-to-work programs and procedures to ensure that all injuries are managed according to Company and legislative requirements.
· Provide professional leadership to direct reports and mentor site/ program HSE professionals and provide assistance with the resolution of site issues when required.
· Review and approve site specific HSE documentation and induction programs for project employees and subcontractors working at various sites to enhance safe work cultures and environments.
· Design and deploy critical risk and HSE culture change initiatives aimed at increasing the focus and attention on HSE in the business.
Ideal attributes

· Degree qualified in an HSE, or equivalent.
· Minimum ten years’ experience in HSE Management in an high risk industry.
· Excellent knowledge of the relevant HSE legislation.
· Demonstrated capability to develop and implement HSE management systems.
· Experience in leading incident investigations.
· Experience in developing and leading training and presentations to small and large groups.
