Job Title: Irrigation Specialist
Reports to: Executive Director of Facilities
Pay Grade: Auxiliary PG 5

Primary Purpose:
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and oversight of the District’s irrigation systems. Properly analyze and correct all problems, coordinate control panel programming and scheduling with staff.
Education/Certification:
High school graduate or GED equivalent
Valid Texas driver’s license
TCEQ Irrigation License in good standing

- Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and verbal instructions

- Proficient operation of office machines and equipment applicable to the position
- Ability to meet established deadlines
- Considerable knowledge in the field of irrigation, installation, maintenance, and repairs
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety practices
- Ability to install irrigation system time clocks and ensure their operational effectiveness
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required
- Ability to interpret irrigation plans
- Proficient skills with the use of personal computer and software relevant to the job.
Experience:
Three (3) to Five (5) years Irrigation Technician experience with one (1) of those years working as a licensed Irrigation Technician.
Essential Functions:
- Troubleshoot and fix irrigation problems.
- Program irrigation control panels.
- Rewire panels and valve boxes as needed.
- Change out irrigation panel/systems as needed.
- Coordinate with grounds crews for irrigation scheduling.
- Design irrigation systems for new areas.
- Replace irrigation heads and adjust as needed.
- Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems
- Install irrigation system time clocks and ensure their operational effectiveness
- Make all necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure irrigation systems are properly maintained and operating in excellent working condition
- Create and submit reports timely as requested relevant to areas of responsibility
- Maintain accurate records of all system operating conditions
- Conduct regular system inspection and perform trouble-shooting exercises as needed to ensure continued and sustained effective operation of all irrigation systems
- Establish and program all watering cycles on district irrigation systems and ensure systems are operating in accordance to programming specifications
- Comply with District directives, policies, procedures, and safety standard operating procedures
- Keep current on all state and local irrigation laws
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Daily attendance and punctuality required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Equipment Used:
Multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders and threaders; hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.); trencher; jackhammer; concrete saw; ladders; forklift; elevated lift equipment; light truck or van

Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools, mowers and landscaping equipment. Occasionally required to work from ladders; and exposed to noise from power equipment.
Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. Must be able to lift to 40 pounds. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent districtwide travel.
