Health Room Assistant-Migrant  - Bilingual Spanish Required* - 6.5 hours/day @ Othello High School

 

  Job Description

  • Provide basic first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
  • Administer medications and treatments as delegated by the licensed school nurse.
  • Assist with monitoring students with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures) according to individualized health plans.
  • Perform delegated health procedures such as:
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Catheterization assistance
  • Tube feeding
  • Nebulizer treatments
  • Other procedures as trained and delegated by the nurse
  • Document student health visits, treatments, and medication administration in accordance with district and state requirements.
  • Support health screenings (vision, hearing, growth, etc.) under nurse direction
  • Communicate health-related information to staff, families, and the school nurse as appropriate.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and stock of the health room.
  • Uphold student confidentiality and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies.
  • Assist in maintaining immunization and health compliance records.
  • Provide health education and wellness between migratory families, schools, and healthcare providers to ensure students have access to required health screenings, immunizations, and medical care.
  • Assist families in completing medical forms and accessing health resources as needed, and provide culturally and linguistically appropriate health education to migratory families and students.
  • Collaborate with school health personnel and MEP staff to identify and remove barriers to learning related to unmet health needs.
  • Participate in staff training related to health and safety protocols.
  • Participate as part of the district Migrant Education Program team and engage in PLCs, Parent Advisory Committee Meetings, and team meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

      Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • *Must pass Spanish proficiency test administered by OSD (oral and written)
  • Current First Aid/CPR card (must keep current and up to date)
  • Previous experience in health care, childcare or school setting preferred.
  • Ability to perform delegated medical tasks after training by the school nurse.
  • Strong organization, communication, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations.

 

Terms of Employment

     Starting Date:         TBD                                                                             

     Salary:                      Per PSE CBA - Schedule A

     Hours:                      6.5 hours/day

     Contracted Days: 179 work days & 7 holidays (186 total contracted days)
