JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview:
The Bucks IU is seeking a qualified and dedicated Reading Specialist. The ideal candidate will hold Wilson Certification, be certified as a Reading Specialist in Pennsylvania, and possess a Special Education teaching certificate. The candidate will provide specialized Wilson instruction to school-age students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Wilson Reading System instruction to students in individual and small-group settings.
- Assess students' reading abilities and implement targeted interventions to address their needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student progress.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary.
- Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance and program implementation.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 193-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel: Travel is dependent on the assignment within Bucks County and is reimbursed in accordance with current Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines and rates.
Education and Experience:
- Valid Pennsylvania Reading Specialist certification and/or Wilson certification required.
- PA Certificate in Special Education Required
Level of Degree:
Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university
Skills and Competencies:
- Expertise in the Wilson Reading System and evidence-based reading intervention strategies.
- Strong ability to differentiate instruction based on individual student needs.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable): Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
