Major/Essential Functions
- Provides safety, health, and laboratory consultation to TTUHSC campuses' stakeholders and manages related concerns.
- Provides and supports operational functions within labs, as well as environmental protection, radiation protection, laboratory safety, fire and life safety, emergency preparedness, and safety education and training programs for the TTUHSC campuses.
- Plans, develops, implements and supports safety programs to meet regulatory, institutional requirements and goals.
- Conducts safety program inspections, audits, and surveys; prepares corrective action and preventive measure reports.
- Surveys research and clinical laboratories for compliance with federal, state, local, institutional laboratory safety rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Maintains data and records regarding laboratory surveys, equipment inspections, laboratory certifications, and laboratory worker credentialing.
- Conducts operational inspections of chemical fume hoods, safety showers, and eyewash stations.
- Investigates or supervises the investigation of reported incidents or hazards within laboratories.
- Communicates with supervisor and other departmental and managerial personnel on problems, recommendations, solutions, and situations.
- Document and establish safety cross-training with all other Safety Services divisions.
- Execute safety culture initiatives as directed by the department.
- Supports the Unit Safety Officer program as necessary to further develop a safety culture within the institution.
- Oversees institutional chemical inventory bar-coding program. Reviews reports, updates inventories, and tracks chemicals as needed.
- Travel to assigned regional campuses to provide comprehensive support for laboratory safety operations. This includes conducting laboratory inspections, performing chemical inventory audits, and inspecting safety equipment to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Oversees laboratory hazard communication. Will create, update, and maintain hazard communication signage that accurately reflects the chemical, biological, radiological, and physical hazards present in each laboratory.
- Responsible for keeping personal Safety-related knowledge, skills, and abilities up-to-date and putting this into practice on the campus; continually updates professional knowledge in all safety-related areas as needed.

- Safety certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, OHST, etc.
