Position Overview

St. Anne's-Belfield, a PS - 12 school serving 900+ students in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a part-time Swim Team Lifeguard for the Winter athletic season.  This position, reporting directly to our Director of Athletics, subscribes to the philosophy that the swimming program must work alongside other sports as a complement to the entire Saints athletic department.  The Winter season starts November 3 and runs through early March, depending on team performance and playoffs.  Primary hours are Monday through Friday from 4 pm - 5:30 pm with additional hours around competition dates.  This is a non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $17.50.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitors and observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules
  • Provides emergency lifesaving services to swimmers in need
  • Takes part in training programs to improve lifesaving skills

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age by employment start date
  • Must possess a current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job
  • Must have an up to date Lifeguard Certification Certificate
  • Must be available to work as many days as possible from 4 - 5:30 pm Monday through Friday

Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of water safety rules and of life saving and first aid practices and techniques
  • Considerable skill and strength in swimming
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent observational and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to game and equipment setup.
