Overview 

The DSA/MID Ambassador teams play a vital role in living our organization’s mission: to create a healthy, vibrant downtown for all. All Ambassadors are stewards of the public realm and help to make it an inviting and welcoming place for all. All Ambassador teams work with the following priority framework focusing on the “three Cs”: Clean, Clear and Cared for. This means that all employees strive to maintain a visually appealing and safe environment for all by resolving clutter and disarray and caring for all people in the public realm in a friendly and positive manner. The downtown public realm should be high quality and consistent, demonstrated through attentive oversight of the details in the public realm space and genuine care and concern for the people in the space. 

 

Position Overview 

The Maintenance Ambassador is responsible for performing ongoing maintenance and repairs to the facilities and equipment managed by MID’s Public Realm Operations Team. The Maintenance Ambassador duties are to include general carpentry, electrical, and landscaping.  

 

Duties and Tasks 

  • Identify defects, maintain, and repair assets and track maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues, repair or schedule outsources repairs.
  • Operate and maintain a company vehicle.
  • Identify and report the need for major repairs and replacements. 
  • Coordinate with city agencies and partners to report and track progress.
  • Repairs, paint, and fill gaps, and/or crevices in walls and sidewalks. 
  • Maintain and repair outdoor furniture and fixtures.
  • Transport furniture and/or equipment to and from storage.
  • Maintain storage areas and tools in an organized and safe manner.
  • Use, maintain and store power tools in a safe manner.
  • Perform landscaping maintenance throughout the MID
  • Perform basic carpentry and electrical repairs.
  • Utilize a ladder to complete repairs and maintenance duties. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to consistently exemplify MID/DSA core values: Collaboration, Perseverance, Innovation, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Capable of adapting and developing repair skills and mechanical knowledge for a wide range of requests. 
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining power and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, landscaping and irrigation.
  • Basic knowledge of worksite safety and compliance practices. 
  • Ability to demonstrate basic math skills required for measuring, inventory counts etc.  
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to work in all public spaces in the downtown area. 
  • Required to maintain a clean and neat appearance. 
  • Must have a good driving record and be accepted by DSA/MID insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a bicycle riding assessment with emphasis on low riding speed. 
  • Knowledge of downtown Seattle and its community a plus. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Work Environment - Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to potentially hazardous waste/substances. 

Physical Demands –Walking, climbing, standing, sitting. Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment.  

 

Schedule: 

*Tentative schedule until November 9th: Team 2 - Monday-Friday 12:30 – 9 pm 

 

Fixed Schedule after November 9th: Team 4- Friday- Monday 10:30 am- 9 pm 

 

Employment Details 

DSA is committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00 Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We will hire at the beginning of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee's performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties.
