Lumos & Associates is looking for a Materials Technician III to join our team. In this role, you’ll independently perform a wide variety of construction materials testing, including soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt, with plenty of independence to solve challenges and expand your expertise, all while supporting projects that shape our communities. If you enjoy problem-solving, working outdoors, and tackling complex technical tasks, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

This is a full-time position based out of our Carson City Lab.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform complex testing, observations, and inspections in both field and lab settings.
  • Communicate with project managers, contractors, clients, and technicians about testing results, requirements, and progress.
  • Interpret specifications, read plans, and provide accurate documentation.
  • Supervise less experienced staff and share your expertise.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment to ensure accurate, reliable results.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks and manage your time effectively.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree from a four-year College or University with an emphasis in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in the AEC industry (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • OSHA-10
    • Nuke Gauge Operator
    • ACI Certifications: Field Technician I, Lab Technician I (Strength & Aggregate), Aggregate Base, Masonry (Lab)
    • NAQTC Certifications: Sampling/Density, Aggregate, and Asphalt
  • Ability to interpret ASTM and AASHTO test methods.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexibility to work hours necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work outdoors and navigate rugged terrain.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (3 or fewer demerit points).

What Sets You Apart:

  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) status (preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience mentoring or training others.
