The Equipment Operator II – Fiber Services is responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment to support fiber installation and related construction activities. This role focuses on underground utility construction, including excavation, trenching, and backfilling, to support fiber optic infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is skilled in operating backhoes and other construction equipment, possesses a valid CDL, and preferably has experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD).
What You'll Do:- Operate backhoes, trenchers, skid steer, and other equipment for fiber optic construction projects.
- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling while maintaining safety of existing utilities and work zones.
- Support horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations as needed.
- Load, transport, and unload equipment and materials to job sites.
- Conduct daily inspections and basic maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Assist with setting up traffic control and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Follow project specifications, company standards, and safety guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and inspectors.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating backhoes in construction or utility environments.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- Experience in fiber optic or underground utility construction preferred.
- Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and utility maps.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
