What You'll Do

The Career Navigator/Site Coordinator provides employment and job training assistance to residents of Firwood Circle, and to King County Section-8 residents in Auburn and the surrounding community. This position will assist Auburn residents to transition from unemployment to stable, long-term employment through culturally-specific, individualized re-employment and career navigation services. This position is based at Firwood Circle and is responsible for coordinating career development, financial literacy, and social service activities at this site, with occasional services at Burndale Homes in Auburn.

What You'll DoThe Career Navigator/Site Coordinator provides employment and job training assistance to residents of Firwood Circle, and to King County Section-8 residents in Auburn and the surrounding community. This position will assist Auburn residents to transition from unemployment to stable, long-term employment through culturally-specific, individualized re-employment and career navigation services. This position is based at Firwood Circle and is responsible for coordinating career development, financial literacy, and social service activities at this site, with occasional services at Burndale Homes in Auburn. Expectations of your role:
  • Enrollment and Service Referral
  • Recruits, interviews, screens, determines eligibility, stabilizes, enrolls, and orients program participants
  • Networks and maintains contact with representatives of other social service providers, and other providers to make referrals and coordinate wraparound support.
  • Coordinates with other YWCA programs and with King County Housing Authority to ensure wraparound support and to improve service integration.
  • Coordinates with staff, the Red Cross, and partners to provide language interpretation and translation services.
  • Assessment and Individual Development Planning
  • Administer Individual Employment Plan (IEP) that identifies a resident’s education and employment goals and lays out a path towards full-time employment.
  • Administers, scores and/or interprets skills and interest assessments for clients.
  • Determines customer’s job readiness, training, job placement and support service needs and customizes services based on systemic barriers.
  • Works with customers to develop career and employment objectives and individual development action plans
  • Basic Skills and Occupational Skills Training
  • Work in partnership with colleges and service providers to offer ESL and GED prep classes and workshops.
  • Provide digital literacy and navigation skills to residents to ensure they can use technology effectively for job search, labor market research, resume development, and submitting applications, among other tasks
  • Refers customers to appropriate occupational training programs at area colleges and training programs and supports customers who are enrolled in school to persist and successfully graduate.
  • Coordinates with training providers to offer on-site occupational training when possible.
  • Coordinates with YWCA staff and Starbucks to enroll youth in customer service and barista cohort training.
  • Coordinates with YWCA ERI program team to provide Money Mechanics financial literacy classes and financial coaching services to residents (may also involve co-facilitating classes)
  • Coordinates with YWCA staff to enroll residents in BankWork$ financial services training and PharmacyWork$ pharmacy tech training.
  • Works with training graduates to transition to employment.
  • Workplace Readiness
  • Provides individual and group job search preparation and training to clarify and develop the habits and attitudes needed to be successful in the workplace, with a strong focus on providing culturally relevant job readiness services for immigrants and refugees.
  • Provides workshops and one-on-one assistance on topics including career planning and exploration; identifying appropriate job openings and navigating the application process; crafting customized and effective resumes and cover letters; effective networking and interviewing; and following up after application and interview
  • Coordinate with YWCA’s virtual ReadyWork$ staff to sign up residents for this monthly job readiness course 
  • Job Placement and Job Retention
  • Coaches customers in developing resumes, cover letters and other job search materials
  • Provides customers with appropriate employer referrals and job search information
  • Emphasizes participant choice and shows sensitivity around placing participants in positions where they can thrive and that fit their interests, backgrounds, and desires
  • Provides follow up job retention and wage progression services to ensure new hires thrive in their careers and are able to achieve economic empowerment goals
  • Recordkeeping and Outcome Reporting
  • Maintains complete and accurate client files.
  • Enters client information into the program database on a regular basis.
  • Meets deadlines for case notes, monthly reports and quarterly full data and narrative reporting.
  • Collects data from sign in sheets and prepares monthly reports for program funder.
  • Enters client’s data into YWCA ClientTrack system on monthly basis.
  • Job Development
  • Initiates and develops relationships with organizations and local employers for the purpose of developing job opportunities and placing clients.
  • Conduct job development to match Auburn residents with employment opportunities that fit their skills and interests and which offer equitable compensation.
  • Partner with current and new organizations to host interns at Firwood, scheduling them for interviews, hiring them, training them on the responsibilities of the internship, reviewing timesheets, and evaluating performance. This also involves preparing them to be competitive in the job market.
  • Makes appropriate job placements, matching participant and employer needs and program requirements.
  • Coordinates area recruiters on employer of the day events and hiring events.
  • Site Operation and Service Coordination
  • Acts as primary point of contact for all training classes at Firwood such as ESL, tutoring class, citizenship class, employer of the month, job fair, life skill trainings and other activities at the center as needed, and work in conjunction with King County Housing Authority staff to ensure resources are effectively utilized.
  • Coordinate the use of computer labs, resource rooms, and job search tools at Firwood Circle
  • Attends provider and community roundtable meetings as well as other community events, representing YWCA and marketing program services
  • Organizes and coordinates special trainings and supplemental services in partnership with site partner Neighborhood House and various other partners including Mental Health First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and First Aid, Cooking Demonstrations, Talk Time classes, Financial Education and various Cultural Day Celebrations
  • Administer surveys to residents to gather data on employment interests and needs in order to customize services based on resident interest and facilitate enrollment in career development services.
  • May conduct employability workshops at both locations, covering topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies
  • Coordinates and communicates with KCHA maintenance team to make sure janitorial, custodial, and maintenance issues are being addressed, and coordinates with KCHA landlord team.
  • Pick up and distribute mail, and orders office and breakroom supplies.
  • Communicates and coordinates with YWCA IT on site technology answers phones, greets and welcomes visitors and provides general information and referrals services to area residents.
  • Prepares incident reports and maintains general safety of site.
  • Maintains and updates bulletin boards, program service flyers and displays at Firwood Circle,
  • Coordinate the site schedules for YWCA, building partner Neighborhood House, and program funder and creates a weekly calendar for utilization of the center at Firwood Circle
  • Collaborates with Neighborhood House’s youth tutoring program ensuring safety of the children and operation of the site.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to expand and improve services offered at Firwood Circle
  • Prepare and submit reports detailing the achievements and impacts of site activities in alignment with program goals and funding requirements.


  • Must have's to be successful:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, social work, education, or related field desired. An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • One to two years of demonstrated experience required performing work related to client recruitment and enrollment, career assessment and planning, support services, occupational training, workplace readiness, job placement, records maintenance and outcomes reporting
  • Additional experience in job and Work-site development, internship placement, and retention services
  • Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own 
  • Knowledge of the local labor market and target client population(s), career assessment methods, and local occupational training program and resources
  • Sensitivity to the needs of YWCA clients who are homeless, low income, limited English speaking, or impacted by domestic violence, substance abuse or other barriers to employment.
  • Ability to work well with clients from diverse family styles and multi-ethnic populations
  • Creativity in problem-solving, decision making and negotiating solutions
  • Working independently and as a member of a team
  • Traveling between office locations Prioritizing, and organizing workload and managing time to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products required.
  • Candidate must be able to travel independently between multiple work sites within a day.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills of basic computer competencies such as emailing, calendaring, entry-level data entry and familiarity with Microsoft Office products

  • Hours, Rate, and Benefits
  • Hourly Rate: $28.00
  • Hours: 40 Hours per week

  • Physical Requirements
