We are seeking a skilled and motivated Legal Counsel to join our team. This role exists to provide high-quality legal support to the General Counsel, helping to ensure our organisation meets its legal, compliance, and governance obligations. You will play a vital part in protecting the company’s interests, mitigating risk, and enabling sound commercial outcomes across a broad range of matters.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, the role is predominantly a commercial/corporate role however any experience in property or construction law would be advantageous given the nature of our industry and large property footprint.

The Legal Counsel would be responsible for providing timely, commercially focused and high-quality legal advice that adds value to each of the business units and the overall Wagners’ Group, including:

  • Provide clear independant legal advice on commerical, corporate, competiotion, and compliance matters

  • Assist with debt recovery and litgation management, working with insureres and external advisers where required

  • Support governance initiatives, including policy development, compliance reporting, board and committee papers, and minute-taking

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, agreements, and project documentation

  • Provide legal support on property, leasing, and development transactions

  • Help manager the company's insurance program and risk minimisation initiatives

  • Deliver training to staff on legal, risk, and compliance matters

 

About you

 

You are a collaborative legal professional with a strong commercial mindset and the ability to balance risk with practical business outcomes. You will ideally have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Law and current legal practising certificate

  • 3-6 years post-admission experience in a law firm or in-house role

  • Sound knowledge of corporations’ law, consumer law, and general commercial law

  • Strong skills in contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute management

  •  Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
