Thuma is looking for an Associate Design Director who has an exceptional eye for minimalistic and sophisticated design, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a drive to make a meaningful impact at a design-focused company and provide leadership to the Graphic Design team.

The Associate Design Director is responsible for creating Thuma’s design strategy, creating all new elements of the Thuma design system across all consumer touch points and ensuring all executions align to brand standards. The right candidate has passion for design, typography, color, space and motion as they come together to create innovative, brand elevating designs and campaigns that seamlessly solve marketing and brand objectives. The Associate Design Director is able to elegantly solve brand problems in ways that align with brand values. Strong leadership, presentation, collaboration, and cross functional partnership skills are required to successfully strategize and execute in this role.

Thuma’s Headquarters is based in the historic Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. The role involves three days in the office each week and occasional additional days as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive concepting and execution of graphic design content across all marketing channels (site, digital, social, email, print, TV, OOH, retail).
  • Partner with Brand Creative leadership to strategize, develop, and execute the visual language for seasonal and evergreen projects, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines across Copy, Marketing, Design, and Art.
  • Set a clear vision and elevate design standards by sharing best practices, inspiring excellence, and fostering a culture of creativity, bold exploration, and professional growth.
  • Lead, build and develop a high performing graphic design team through collaboration, communication, prioritization, and aligning work to organizational objectives.
  • Guide production planning and content creation, ensuring timely, high-quality, on-brand output that meets marketing needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver campaigns, providing strategic and creative feedback, leading brainstorms, and evolving visual and campaign guidelines.
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and expectations, and manage the creative approval process, clearly communicating direction to internal/external teams.
  • Stay current with design, furniture, and hospitality trends, competitor activity, and cultural shifts to inform creative decisions.

  • What You'll Need
  • 5- 7+ years experience in a design direction role or other relevant experience in-house or at an agency.
  • 3+ years of managing designers.
  • A portfolio showcasing the creation of brand systems and campaigns across digital, print, retail, packaging, and film.
  • Experience concepting and execution of 360 degree campaigns across mediums. (Print, film, 3-D, digital, social, etc.)
  • Experience in design-led lifestyle brands and DTC/e-commerce is highly preferred (Fashion or luxury experience is a plus).
  • Experience leading creative for 3-D still and film productions a plus.
  • A proven track record of successfully managing and developing talent.
  • A deep love for design, furniture and exceptional customer experiences.
