About the Department

Oakdale is hiring for entry level and lateral police officer positions. Lateral candidates pay commensurate with experience along, with front-loaded Paid Time Off based on previous service, and an accelerated FTO process.

Candidates with more than 10 years of experience are eligible for the Senior Officer pay range: $95,360 - $119,201 in 2025 and $98,222 - $122,777 in 2026.

Position Duties

Under limited direction, this position performs law enforcement work such as routine patrol, preliminary investigations, crime control, and traffic regulation for the protection of life and property and prevention; and provides emergency services through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

  • Respond to calls for service; handles citizen complaints, problem solving, making custodial arrests, and issuing summons.
  • Knowledge of state law and local ordinance.
  • Ability to drive and operate emergency vehicles.
  • Ability to handle volatile persons, defend self and others, and testify.
  • Investigates reports of crime, interview victims, suspects and others involved, collects evidence, packages cases for prosecution.
  • Complete paperwork, reports and case management, and training.
  • Patrol city streets, neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and conducts traffic enforcement and issues citations.
  • Knowledge of city geography.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree in Law Enforcement/ Criminal Justice
Experience
  • POST license eligible by time of hire
Trainings, Certificates, and Licenses
  • Minnesota Police Officers license
  • Valid Drivers License with a driving record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier
  • Use of force training
  • Police field training
