THE ROLE


The Production Supervisor oversees production scheduling, quality control, and team supervision to ensure optimal workflow and timely delivery of products. They foster strong customer relationships by managing service operations, resolving issues, and maintaining clear communication. Additionally, they lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, monitor key performance metrics, and promote a culture of accountability and collaboration within the team.

SKILLS REQUIRED

ORGANIZATIONAL - Leadership & Organization:

  • The ability to effectively plan and organize production timelines to ensure timely delivery and efficient workflow.
  • Skill in managing and optimizing the coordination of tasks across different departments to enhance productivity.
  • The capability to track and report key performance metrics, allowing for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

INTERPERSONAL - Experience Required:

  • The ability to foster strong relationships with customers through effective communication, ensuring satisfaction and timely issue resolution.
  • Skilled in training and mentoring employees, promoting collaboration, accountability, and a positive work culture.
  • The capacity to address and resolve issues effectively, serving as a technical resource for troubleshooting and guiding teams through challenges.

EFFICIENCY - Experience Preferred:

  • The ability to identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions to enhance throughput and reduce waste.
  • Skilled in leading and supporting initiatives aimed at improving process efficiency and minimizing downtime.
  • The capability to track and analyze key performance indicators related to productivity, cost, quality, and safety to drive informed improvements.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership in maintaining a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures, and instructions.
  • Drive adherence to RMS Employee Handbook, settle disagreements, partner with HR as needed, and foster a positive shop floor environment.
  • Ensure on-time completion of Performance Evaluations and perform regular maintenance to Employee Skill & Training Matrix.
  • Manage and coordinate departmental Leads (Welding, Machining, Mechanic, Balance) to ensure on-time completion of jobs.
  • Assist Quality Control personnel in trouble-shooting NCRs or with RCAs as needed.
  • Partner with Shop Scheduler and Operations Manager to drive on-time delivery of all projects.
  • Coach craft labor during disassembly, inspection, repair, and assembly of complex rotating equipment.
  • Maximize “utilization” while ensuring shop resources are working on scheduled tasks while understanding job priorities.
  • Attend production meetings, giving updates and suggestions, as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization with respect to work practices and routers.
  • Coordinate Preventative Maintenance activities with Facilities & Scheduling on shop capital equipment.
  • Assist in planning turnaround work to be conducted in the Pearland Works facility.
  • Familiarity with OEM products (AC Compressor / Conmec / RMS) with ability to quickly understand non-OEM rotating equipment.
  • Ability to expertly comprehend complex drawings and procedures on various types of rotating equipment including centrifugal, gear, and screw compressors; hot gas and nitric acid expanders; steam turbines & TTVs, etc.
  • Familiarity with Welding / fabrication of major sub-components, and also knowledgeable with Rotating Elements & principles of low-speed balancing.
  • Set up and performing of hydro or gas leak test.
  • Communicate with supervision, crafts, and Project Managers during the inspection and repair process.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.).
  • Ability to lead in a team environment.
  • Ability to coach / mentor within the extended team.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to work in an environment of constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities.
  • Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches.
  • Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer and math skills.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years in relevant turbomachinery industry in shop environment.
  • Strong machining knowledge required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION 

  •  High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Post High School degree in a mechanical related field is a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This position will be based full-time in our Pearland Works facility located in Pearland, TX 
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. (50 lbs. with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
  • Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage.
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift. 
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Able to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments. 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
