Job Summary:
Provides revenue and operational support for a multi-state, carrier-class IP network. Responsibilities include deploying network equipment, designing orders, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining accurate network documentation. Duties cover customer equipment, edge aggregation devices, and core IP infrastructure.

What you will be doing:
- Design services and networks in single platform and greenfield deployment scenarios
- Generate installation documentation for a wide variety of network devices
- Configure/reconfigure network infrastructure to support growth of the network
- Create Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for localized maintenance on the network
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving service impairments, and affect proactive change to prevent future incidents
- Communicate project status effectively and proactively to engineering support staff, project management, and other outside teams
- Logging into and auditing devices to maintain network documentation that accurately reflects the state of our network
- Implement engineering guidelines regarding performance, reliability, security, scalability by being able to complete installation, testing, and acceptance of network hardware and services
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost
- All other duties as assigned
What you need for this position:
- 4-year degree in Engineering or Computer Science preferred; relevant experience and/or certifications (NRS-1, CCNA, or equivalent) considered in lieu of degree
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry
- Strong knowledge of PON, Transport, IP/MPLS, xWDM, and related protection schemes (G.8032, STP, MPLS)
- Solid understanding of networking architectures, standards, and protocols across Layers 0–4, including Optical budgets, VLANs, LACP, OAM, TCP/UDP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, and related services (HSI, VPLS, P2P, Pseudowires, NNIs, UNIs, OVCs)
- Experience with telecom facility management systems (e.g., Metasolv) and familiarity with Element Management Systems, Solarwinds, NetFlow, or OcularIP
- Experience with relational databases, SQL queries, scripting languages (Perl/Python), and version control systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Project and Visio preferred
- Strong communication skills, with ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects, balance tactical and strategic needs, and adapt in a dynamic environment
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and highly self-motivated with minimal supervision
