JOB OVERVIEW

 

Under general direction, the Executive Director is accountable for: planning, preparing for, and organizing all Institutional Review Committee (IRC) meetings; ensuring adherence of the institutional review process with ACGME Policies and Procedures; ensuring timely, accurate, and appropriate follow-up for all IRC decisions and actions; managing all communications related to accreditation and recognition of Sponsoring Institutions; and providing information and guidance to designated institutional officials (DIOs) and other institutional leaders to assist them in understanding and complying with ACGME processes and requirements.

  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all activities related to the accreditation and recognition review of Sponsoring Institutions.
  • Manages the dissemination of information to internal and external constituents as appropriate.
  • Accurately interprets the Institutional Requirements on behalf of the IRC.
  • Facilitates and supervises activities related to accreditation and recognition standards, and the institutional accreditation and recognition process.
  • Acts as a liaison to agencies and organizations concerned with graduate medical education (GME).
  • Supports the development of DIOs relevant to all aspects of institutional accreditation and their leadership role for GME within their respective Sponsoring Institutions.
  • In collaboration with the Department of Education, develops and implements educational offerings to advance the professional development of DIOs, institutional coordinators, and other GME leaders.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate interactions with the staff members of specialty-specific Review/Recognition Committees and staff members focused on common interests and concerns related to institutional oversight of programs in the context of institutional accreditation.
  • Acts as a liaison between the IRC and the specialty-specific Review/Recognition Committees, the Council of Review Committee Chairs, and other ACGME committees and departments regarding issues that affect Sponsoring Institutions to ensure understanding and appropriate implementation of the Institutional Requirements.
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of IRC-related activities for the ACGME Annual Educational Conference.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/P) and GME in implementing improvements for Sponsoring Institutions as part of the ACGME’s framework for MUA/P and GME.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Outreach and Collaboration in planning and implementing educational activities for Sponsoring Institutions.
  • Collaborates with all other ACGME departments to improve the accreditation and recognition processes, particularly as pertains to issues related to Sponsoring Institutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff members. Supervisory functions include: making hiring and termination decisions; prioritizing assignments and directing work; developing and overseeing employee work schedules and approving time away from work; providing and/or facilitating employee training and development; approving/processing employee concerns and problems and counseling or disciplining as appropriate; completing employee performance appraisals; determining or making recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes; and acting as the liaison between employees and Management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field of study.
  • At least three years of director-level experience in GME, accreditation, or certification systems, research, and administration.
  • At least three years of experience leading a team in quality improvement, systems thinking, and team-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience leading teams and change management efforts. 

 

Preferred


  • Earned terminal degree in a relevant field of study.
  • At least five years of director-level experience in GME, accreditation, or certification systems, research, and administration.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL SETS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to interact credibly with all levels of professional staff members, including senior executives, physician leaders, and other educators involved in GME and health care administration.
  • Knowledge of higher education programs, including their structure, application, and accreditation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, with polished public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit, and proofread documents for an academic audience.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in a typical office environment with no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands.
  • Most of the work performed is normally done in the ACGME office and/or home office with the typical physical demands of an office environment.
