Schedule: Monday – Friday, hours TBD. May be asked to come in after hours and on weekends for facility-related emergencies as needed.

 

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting with maintenance, repairs, and janitorial services of the GHS campus and facilities. Work may involve physical labor and inclement weather. The ability to safely use power tools, chemicals, hand tools and diagnostic equipment is mandatory. This position is full-time, non-exempt, and eligible for overtime pay.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

 

Illustrative Tasks:

  1. Performs general cleaning, sanitizing, and other janitorial duties for agency buildings and vehicles.
  1. Performs minor repairs and ensures ongoing maintenance of GHS facilities and grounds.
  1. Performs repair work including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and maintaining other building systems and facilities. 
  2. Seasonal tasks including mowing and trimming lawns and hedges and clearing ice and snow from walkways and driving surfaces.    
  3. Helps check for safety hazards and reports deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor and GHS Health & Safety Manager. 
  1. Works with campus Community Work Service (CWS) workers as requested.

 

  1. Stays on call for facility-related emergencies when covering for the Maintenance Supervisor.

 

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • At least one year of experience in maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to safely operate common tools and equipment used for routine maintenance.
  • Ability to use or learn to use a snowplow and heavy equipment. 
  • Prioritize maintaining a tidy workspace and keeping the campus clean and orderly.
  • Ability to interact with GHS staff, clients, and visitors in a professional, polite, and respectful manner. 
  • Willingness to learn and take instruction from the Maintenance Supervisor.

 

Education and Experience:

  • At least one year of work in maintenance and repair work.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Must have a current, valid State of Alaska driver’s license and be insurable by current GHS auto insurance policy holder.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to traverse across the GHS property and through 2-3 story buildings to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance.
  • Must be physically able to perform repairs when needed.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time. 
  • Must be able to pass the DOC and DHSS background checks. 
  • Must pass a urinalysis drug screening.
