In this vital role serves as a specialized engineer within the State of Louisiana’s Safe Drinking Water Program. This position involves meeting program requirements for compliance with the requirements of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. Specifically, the position manages the Disinfection By-products Rule. You’ll apply advanced engineering and scientific principles to protect public health by ensuring safe drinking water across the state. Make a meaningful impact on Louisiana’s water safety!

Position Duties

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties; 

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a LDH technical authority in specialized areas of the Safe Drinking Water Program and work/consult with the US Environmental Protection Agency (Audits, work-plan, training, reports, correspondence, telephone calls, grant requests, etc.) concerning State compliance with federal promulgated regulations
  • Perform determinations of public water systems statewide regarding compliance with the monitoring and maximum contaminant level requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the State Sanitary Code
  • Perform consultations to District and Regional offices as well as public water supplies regarding data, sample collection, statistical report preparation, engineering data development, and engineering review
  • Perform/Conduct responses to public inquiries and complaints
  • Performs/conducts emergency response activities for natural or manmade disasters and waterborne outbreaks or illnesses

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER):

Engineer Intern 1 - $26.44 hourly | $2,115.20 bi-weekly

Engineer Intern 2  - $28.29 hourly | $2,263.20 bi-weekly

Engineer 3 – $33.39 hourly | $2,671.20 bi-weekly

Engineer 4 - $36.90 hourly | $2,952.00 bi-weekly

Engineer 5 - $39.48 hourly | $3,158.40 bi-weekly
