The UGL New Energy team is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Electrical

to join our energy team.

ABOUT THE POSITION ON OFFER
As part of your role, you will be responsible for the full electrical engineering scope of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, from tender stage through to detailed design and delivery. This includes developing specifications, coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs and collaborating with bid managers, clients and project teams to deliver safe, compliant and cost-effective solutions. 

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Leading electrical engineering input into tender proposals including design concepts and technical clarifications.
  • Developing conceptual preliminary and detailed electrical designs for BESS projects.
  • Preparing design specifications, single line diagrams and equipment sizing for HV systems.
  • Coordinating with package leads to ensure technical compliance and integration.
  • Managing technical interfaces between disciplines, including civil, structural and controls.
  • Supporting grid connection studies and ensuring compliance with market and regulatory requirements.
  • Assisting in project forecasting, constructability reviews and design risk assessments.
  • Providing technical support to site teams during installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and fostering knowledge sharing across the team.

Your skills and experience:    

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and delivery of utility-scale BESS projects or large scale electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HV (above 33kV)/substation design, protection systems, grid connection requirements and balance of plant works.
  • Known for strong analytical thinking, effective problem-solving, and clear communication.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in diverse teams, managing multiple projects, and maintaining a strategic focus.
  • Open to travel for site-based work as needed.
