CIRCULATION ASSISTANT II

$25.22 – $30.63/ hour


The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for CIRULATION ASSISTANT II in the LibraryThis is a part time position at 24 hours per week at the Evergreen Branch. This position will consist of 4 scheduled days per week at 6 hours per shift. With advanced notice, shift times may be modified to meet business needs. Employees may be asked to report to the Main Library to help maintain coverage as needed.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is responsible for performing basic Circulation activities such as check-out, check-in and shelving, while providing excellent customer service. The work is performed in a busy front-desk environment, where both speed and accuracy are essential. Work in this classification requires basic knowledge of and experience with library operations, procedures, systems, and equipment. Work guidelines are available in the form of regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions. Individuals carry out routine assignments independently once procedures and policies are learned. The work is performed under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisor.



ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK 

  • Register new customers for library cards; renew cards and update records; replace lost cards. Explain and enforce procedures and policies to borrowers related to library usage.

  • Collect, receipt, and post money to patrons' accounts for fees, fines and the replacement cost of lost and damaged library materials. Referring negotiations or more complex interactions to Circulation Assistant III or higher.

  • Check in, check out, and renew library materials.

  • Manage reserves by placing exact title holds for customers; referring more complex requests to Librarian.

  • Retrieve materials and reconcile reports.

  • Respond to customer inquiries, both in person and over the phone, providing information within scope of knowledge or refer to appropriate co-worker.

  • Assist customers in the use of library materials and equipment.

  • Assist Librarians with programs. 

  • Organize and shelve materials according to the classification system employed by the library. Maintain accurate order of materials on shelves. 

  • Process newspapers and magazines.

  • Straighten work areas and public seating areas by picking up materials and debris and arranging chairs.

  • Package interlibrary loan materials for shipment.

  • Search and pull materials from a list. 

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

  • Perform all functions assigned to lower classifications.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures, systems and equipment as related to a Circulation Department, AND 

  • One (1) year experience working in a public library; 

           OR

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Experience with the Everett Public Library is desirable.

EXAMINATION STEPS

  • There will be a pre-screening of all applications.

  • Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and blind rated.

  • Top-scoring applicants will be called to an in-person oral panel interview (tentatively scheduled at the Evergreen branch for October 23,  2025 & October 24, 2025)

  • Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.

  • This job classification is represented by Everett Municipal Employees Local 113, AFSCME.

  • New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
