- Plan, develop, and oversee activity programs for clients with a minimum of seven (7) activity program hours per week, seven (7) days a week. Activities must include, at a minimum, group and individual social activities both on and off campus, to promote:
- Money management,
- Exercise and well-being opportunities,
- Creative activities (art, music, dance)
- Religious or spiritual activities
- Educational activities
- Awareness of community through focused seasonal events
- Opportunities for client involvement for planning and implementation of the activity program
- Social activities within the program and general community
- Coordinates client government, daily Community Meetings and a Client Level System,
- Develop and maintain contacts with community agencies and organizations
- Assure up-to date Activity Schedule is posted for clients and staff in large visible print
- Maintain age appropriate equipment and supplies in sufficient quantity
- Conduct annual reviews of departmental policies and recommend changes to the Administrator.
- Develop and maintain care plans and assessments for clients, ensuring integration into overall care plans. Maintain progress notes specific to the leisure and activity needs of the clients, at least quarterly, and as needed, in the client record.
- Maintains a current record of the type and frequency of activities provides and the names of clients participating in each activity.
- Collaborate with other departments to align activity programs with clients' needs.
- Prepare reports, forms, and budgets for the activity department
- Conduct client and family interviews to identify activity preferences and needs.
- Engage clients and families in the planning, design and evaluation of activity programs.
- Schedules, facilitates and/or supervises field trips, parties, and daily recreational activities.
- Provide materials for hobbies, crafts, and educational development.
- Foster client participation in group and individual activities.
- Recruit, train, and supervise activity department personnel. Orientation and training should include (in addition to general orientation to the facility):
- recognition and understanding of the emotional problems and social needs of the clients
- available community resources
- facilitating group and individual activities
- policies and procedures related to off-unit or outside activities
- involvement of family/significant support person in activities
- Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Develop schedules and work assignments for activity staff.
- Ensure department staff adhere to safety, infection control, and facility protocols.
- Have two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, one year of which was full-time in client activities and programs in a mental health setting.
- Must have prior experience in healthcare facilities and be a licensed or certified Recreational Therapist.
- Must be a licensed or certified Recreational Therapist.
