POSITION SUMMARY:
- To oversee the daily operation of the Production department in producing a quality, on-time product; train employees to maximize productivity, minimize waste and downtime, and maintain a clean, organized, safe working environment that exceeds OSHA and GMP standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follows schedule and shop communications log; communicates any order priorities/changes to employees; records any variances to the schedule;
- Investigates safety issues; fills out accident reports and administers first aid;
- Monitors housekeeping; delegates tasks;
- Posts and awards overtime;
- Provides guidance and interacts with outside contractors and plant visitors; directs outside parties to desired location within the plant and/or department; answers questions if necessary;
- Trains departmental employees on work instructions, procedures, and any safety-related issues;
- Administers employee discipline;
- Edits and approves employee time sheets;
- Ensures employees are at their assigned work station(s) performing required job functions;
- Handles crewing issues such as equally distributing workload when operating while short staffed;
- Fills out repair forms; interacts with maintenance to get items repaired and determine status of repairs;
- Assists in troubleshooting molding machines;
- Fills out end of shift report; provides updates on current department activity to incoming supervisor and/or manager;
- Delegates special work assignments daily;
- Recommends and implements improvements;
- Reduces cycle times of molding machines through processing; compares actual to standard cycles and makes necessary adjustments to achieve standards;
- Increases cavitation; troubleshoots process to produce good parts; unblocks cavities to investigate and resolve problems;
- Monitors set up and start up machines for 1st run production of a mold, or after major mold repair/modification when engineering support is not available;
- Determines various problems related to molding process (i.e. hydraulic, electrical, etc.); keeps Production manager informed of problems.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares work orders;
- Fills out production replacement tickets;
- Prints emergency work orders;
- Ensures mold changes are complete; fills out the appropriate paperwork;
- Prints Production Carton Labels;
- Presides over weekly Safety Green Area Meeting;
- Presides over Green Area Meetings once a shift;
- Prints daily reports and charts report results;
- Responsible for enforcing all Food Safety related policies and procedures;
- Responsible for enforcing and following all Safety Rules policies, procedures and work instructions;
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Associate’s Degree preferred; knowledge of injection molding processes and procedures; knowledge of plastics; computer literate; good communication and interpersonal skills.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years Molding supervisory experience; previous plastic injection molding, troubleshooting, and processing experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lifting or Carrying (0-50 lbs. typically 0-15% of the day) - work orders, clipboard;
- Simple Grasping (0-15%) - work orders, forms and reports;
- Fine Manipulating (10%) - inputting production into computer.
