Position Summary

The Emergency Medicine Training Center provides comprehensive EMS education, serving as a vital training site for the American Heart Association, the DC Department of Health EMT and Paramedic program, and the National Association of EMTs. Our courses attract a diverse student body and are offered in various settings, catering to both initial certifications and renewals, for both the public and healthcare providers.

As the EMS Faculty, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical instruction, ensuring students are well-prepared for their certification exams. You will utilize your expertise to provide high-fidelity simulations and guide students through structured instructional plans, regularly assessing their progress to ensure they meet program requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses, with a primary focus on the Paramedic program with occasional instruction for ACLS and PALS. (50% of teaching load).
  • Instruct Basic Life Support (BLS) courses, with a primary focus on the EMT program and AHA CPR courses (50% of teaching load).
  • Serve as an AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor.
  • Be or willing to be a NAEMT Instructor (e.g., PHTLS, AMLS, TCCC).
  • Obtain DC DOH Instructor certification upon hire.
  • Provide high-fidelity simulations and practical training to students across all programs.
  • Ensure training equipment readiness, including proper setup, cleaning, maintenance, and storage.
  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses in adherence to established policies and procedures, maintaining high-quality instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with Training Center staff regarding course quality assurance, skills deficiencies, or other course delivery challenges.

Education

Must be a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) and hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider/Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider/Instructor, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider/Instructor certification.

 A minimum of two (2) years of college coursework in Education, Healthcare, Nursing, EMS Management, or a combination of education and training that demonstrates success in an educational role is preferred.

Experience

The candidate must have a minimum of two (2) years’ field or clinical experience as a healthcare provider or pre-hospital provider.

Competencies

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate professionally providing verbal feedback. Must be able to follow and understand instructions and react favorably in all work situations.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA).  The candidate must be available to work weekdays, evenings and weekends, be able to work independently and have skills in working and collaborating as part of a team.
