POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Youth Workforce Education Coordinator supports career counseling service delivery to middle and high school students in the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). The position coordinates reporting for career exploration resources and service delivery and identifies and collaborates with partners to develop career exploration activities. The position supports operations, maintains compliance, and maintains databases relevant to the career exploration and readiness process.

STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE:
$23.87 - $29.45
$49,650 - $61,256


CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Performs advanced technical level human services work, which may include supervisory responsibility, under regular supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes providing services needed to carry out human service programs or the operation of a medium sized center with extensive regional responsibility and daily programs.

Position Duties

Include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.  
  • Supports the coordination of student micro-experiences with work including business visits, job shadows, field trips and virtual simulation software.
  • Coordinates community and business partnerships to help connect partners with students and schools. 
  • Assists with connecting students to employment opportunities.
  • Researches and understands local, state, and national industry and business needs.
  • Supports the coordination, outreach and hosting of 3-5 job fairs annually. 
  • Supports the SYEP team with recruitment and retention of business partnerships.
  • Assists with providing career coaching services to students, including direct service delivery, administration of assessments, preparing reports, and tracking data.
  • Support operations for career counseling service delivery and related staff.
  • Supports compliance with MOU between relevant partners.  
  • Maintains databases, prepares reporting materials, drafts written reports and presentations and shares information with program supervisor and management.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree and one (1) year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • 2 years’ experience preferred
  • Event planning experience (required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and/or Google suite (required) 
  • Experience supporting the operations of a team delivering services (required)
  • Direct service delivery experience (preferred)
  • Youth development experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn about workforce development and labor market trends (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize schedules, programs, and multiple tasks simultaneously (required)
  • Project management experience (preferred)
